Schumacher injuries force cancellation of comeback

Michael Schumacher has announced that he will be calling off his Formula One comeback at the European Grand Prix . “I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn't work out. Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello, even if medically or therapeutically we tried everything possible.”
After the news on Tuesday morning that Michael Schumacher will be unable to replace Felipe Massa due to injuries of his own, Ferrari has announced that Italian reserve driver Luca Badoer will be partnering Kimi Räikkönen at the European Grand Prix.

Wow... I'm surprised. How many extra tickets have they sold in Valencia and following GP on the news of his "comeback"?

Sad to hear but at least he's putting his health and the team ahead of personal financial gain.

It's sad, but I'm kinda glad it happened. I wanted to see him race again, but at the same time didn't want him to pull a Michael Jordan and ruin his legacy by making an unnecessary comeback. I'm disappointed, but not at Schumacher himself.

I am sad to hear he won't be racing too. It was going to be so cool to watch Shumi come back to the action.

Dude, he is worth like $800 million+. The extra $2 mil he would have made is less than the interest on the money he has. Don't think he was doing it for the dough.

Yes, learn from those before that should have retired, but didn't, and now people wonder, what ever happened to them...

Glad to see he wasn't pressured into doing anything he's not ready for...

I'm glad he was smart enough to quit before his injuries got worse...but man, F1 has had too many surprise announcements recently.

That is the funniest thing ever.

Financial gain? You think after $100MM a year for many years, he cares one bit about what he gets paid (if anything!) to drive an F1 car in anger again?

At the risk of being rude, you must be a NASCAR fan trapped in Ireland!

I'm really bummed about this.....

Come on... can't he rehab that neck in time? Or just go slower than he's used to...
He'll still be competitive ..
