335i Insurance in NYC

A few weeks ago (prior to ordering my 335i) I called allstate for an insurance quote.
I was quoted 998 for 6 mos.
With full coverage Allstates platinum program (which give you forgivable accidents) and evry 6 mos that you renew provided you maintain a clean record, they renew you at a 5% discount. And give you 100 of your deductable..
Deductible 250 less 100 if I need to use it.

I called friday to give them the VIN number of my car which is at the port in germany waiting for a boat.

Dramatic DECREASE...
Same coverage 775 for 6mos.

I am 26 clean license, slightly below avg FICO score, with a defensive driver discount and I am married..
I think this is a pretty good rate.

keep in mind this thread was to gauge NYC-area pricing.

dmfitz82 -- you're lucky you don't have to insure all those cars here in the NYC area ;-)

I live in Douglaston, Queens
I am close closer to Long Island than I am Manhatten.

This is still a significant drop from what I am paying on my acura
1200 for 6 mos
this is like 40% less

IMO Allstate is one of the higher priced insurance carriers. Try Liberty Mutual for a quote. I have auto and home owner's insurance with them and am very satisfied. Their prices are lower than Allstate and State Farm.

Wow, that's a great price. Maybe I'll call up Allstate. What's your liability coverage? I have 100/300k. Full coverage. But I don't think Geico has that new car replacement option.

I switched from Allstate to GEICO about 10 years ago and saved about 30 percent when I did.

I'm in Westchester and the cost for 2 cars is about $950/6 mos -- but we have a lot more than the minimum coverage.

Wow, didn't realize I was getting ripped off so bad. I pay almost 1500 per 6 MONTHS, and I have a Durango. Never been in an accident, Male, 24 years old as of a few days ago, had my license since I was 18 (No drivers ed or defensive though) and I live in the Queens area. Not married or anything and this is my only car and I have GEICO.

I'm really going to need to review my coverage, I don't see why I should be paying 3 grand a year. I had asked them about it once, and they gave me some canned response about how rates are determined by area/car/etc.

You guys know a good approach I should take to get an actual detailed breakdown of why my rates are so high?

It could be the part of Queens your in (Jamaica?). I'd be interested to find out what trick50's coverage is. I have over 10 years of perfect record and I pay more with Geico.

I'm in Kew Garden Hills, which isn't a bad part of Queens at all.

but even before that, I lived all the way out in LI in Greenlawn which is around Huntington, a pretty nice area, and I was still paying about $2400 a year, of course, I was also younger then.

I know Kew Gardens well -- I went to high school on Queens Blvd -- and while it is one of the nicest places to live in NYC, it usually tends to show up as one of the places where car theft is highest. The thieves know where all the nice cars live, too.

Insurance rates include all kinds of factors, including your driving record and whether you're married or single, whether you are garaging the car or not, and how your neighbhorhood fares on auto theft reports (it's more detailed than just the city and some parts of NYC have higher thefts than others).
