Live Free or Die my ass
I just paid over a grand to register my car + plates. I feel raped. WTFFF.
NH is a scam. There's no state tax, but they get you everywhere else. Last edited by Derek Zoolander; 09-23-2009 at 10:31 AM.. |

NH costs a fortune to register the car, MA has excise tax. Call it whatever you want, the (huge chunk) of cash goes to the same place.
My E90's excise tax for 12 months was about a grand. Just paid the bill last month.

sales tax def is by far a bigger chunk of $$...also for those of you thinking of getting a car close to the last week of Dec, you'll have to pay excise tax for the entire month of Dec even though there's a week left for the year....best thing is to wait after Dec 31 to pull the trigger.

Hey, someone has to keep the Turnpike Authority and happy/pleasant/fast-moving workers at the registry job's alive.
Too bad it's us.

NO income tax either right? At least you get to see and take home what you make.. I rather pay a grand to register a car than to never see my money.. on top of every other tax i have to pay to live in this state

Not the same state but...
I bought my car overseas through the Military Sales Program which is tax free. When I shipped it back to the states, FL charged me 8% sales tax to register and get plates!!! The bank thought I was paying a ransom when I went to pull the $ out. Not even people in the military get a break To make it worse, even though the car was over 6 months old, they still taxed me as if it was a new car.

ya i paid about that too man. but as everyone else has stated, we don't have excise, sales, or income tax. property taxes blow up here, but you get way more house for your dollar. oh and as far as the price of registering the car? well, we do have some sweet ass roads to drive on and the average road maintained much better than in mass(as far as bumps and potholes). that alone is worth it to me. but no matter what state you live in, the taxes/property value etc. usually kinda even out.

NH takes your money from you just the same as MA. They just do it differently.
I've lived in both states and I stand firm in saying they about even out. Oh and you can't legally tint your front side windows at all in NH. That sucks the big one! |

Um, excise tax decreases each year you own the car. Mine was about $350 for 09. Calm down.
