335 BOV installed
I know many frown upon this mod but for those of you like me who can't have a boosted car without one...
It sounds great, honestly not as loud as i prefer... sound is well insulated under the hood but it still made me smile the first time i heard it. Install is just rough right now with a temp. welded pipe in there but i should have all the new permanent pieces in by the weekend. No performance loss. No Check Engine Light. Replaced a factory rubber pipe so it can be uninstalled and put back to stock in minutes. Factory recircultaing valves are just diabled so it vents to the atmosphere instead of veeding back into the intake. |

The BOV was $188 onlne but there are cheaper ones out there for sure. Another $100 buck in silicone couplers, clamps, alluminum pipe, flange and weld. |

The pipe I fabricated looks awful but here is a pic of the one I purchased with the flange already installed. It is probably the best ebay find I have ever had . They are on there all day for $10 and it is honestly 10 times better that the one I had made using the Greddy Flange that costs $25 alone. But as usual, i couldnt wait so we fabricated one and then i ordered this once I saw that it was all working as planned. I will have to cut it down to 3.5" in order to fit in the current place but that wont be a problem. |

what is BOV, Blow Off Valves...if so, what sort of farting sound will it make? Is it just for audible pleasure or will it improve performance as well? I am a newb with this BOV thingy...

I wonder how much HP you loose as the boost is vented during shifts?
BMW knows what they're doing, so you're sacrificing power for style (sound) but hey it's your car so have fun. |

No HP loss for BOV, but of course no gain either. It's really just a safety measure (especially if he ends up increasing boost from other mods) to vent unwanted boost during shifts and/or decreasing speed. If there were no BOV or some sort of valve for releasing pressure you would have air being forced into the intake when you don't need or want it ie. slowing down.
While I'm talking about safety, two mods that I think would be a good idea is a turbo timer and perhaps an oil catch can. Turbo timer will keep the engine running for a set amount of time before shutting down to prevent oil cooking, which can damage the turbine and/or compressor. The catch can will catch the blow-by oil from the PCV valve to the intake tract.
