Im scheduled to have my iPod adapter installed next week (12th) and wanted to know from those who already have it 'if its worth paying the fee'?

I don't know how it works on non-nav cars, but on nav cars scrolling through a long list of tracks is painful. I've given up on getting to certain songs. I'm now considering strategies to defeat this problem, like splitting playlists by alphabet, e.g. Rock A-F, Rock, G-L, etc. The worst part is that I only have about 600 songs on my Nano right now. I can't imagine what it would be like with more. BMW needs to adapt the iDrive controller to respond to quick turns the way the iPod does, or at least invent some kind of "page down" feature or alphabet feature for quickly navigating through long track lists.
That said, I could not go back to CDs and, overall, I'm happy with the solution. You can't beat the convenience. You will never find another CD in my car. |

I do it by artist. CD 2, then look for the song through that folder. Just remember that as your ipod gets bigger you can only have 250 or 255 artists. Each folder (artist or playlist) can hold 500 songs. Another choice would be to make playlists with the group of songs you want to hear. It makes srolling through the lists much easier. My problem is that I have over 14000 songs and more than 400 artists. I can't access them all. I'm still trying to figure out the cure for that.

I also ran into the problem that it is limiting me to between 25 and 30 playlists. Why can't the software just run the iPod? I don't understand all of the limitations. I wish they would have had more information on some of these limitations before I purchased the adapter.
Pros: Excellent sound quality. Ease of scrolling thru playlists. Cons: Limits playlists, numbers of albums, artists, etc. Difficult to scroll thru artists, albums, songs, etc. Suggestions to BMW: Get rid of file limitations. Make folders (playlist, album, artist, song, etc.) searchable or at least navigable by alphabet (similar to nav functions and phonebook functions). I have attempted to solve the problem by arranging my playlists with the songs I listen to the most. Overall, I really enjoy the sound quality and being able to use the iDrive to control the iPod. However, BMW needs to fix the bugs with folder limitations and difficulty with navigating folders.
