lowering the xi or not?

I was wondering if anyone that has done this has any thoughts on it, because I was told that the suspension on the xi is done to support the xDrive. I want to get some 18" CSL reps and I'm not sure it'll look good on the xi without lowering it, but at the same time I'm not sure how it works mechanically and how lowering it will affect the performance of the car?

Can somebody explain this to me? Or post some pics of the xi unlowered with rims? Thanks!
