RFT - Bridgestone vs Pirelli

Hi all,

I'm a newbie here so go easy!

I have a 2008 335i Coupe M-Sport with the original Bridgestone RFT's. In Australia there seem to be very little options for the size of the rims.

I have been given two options (for the rears, 255/35/r18):

OEM Bridgestone Potenza - AUD$800 or
Pirelli P-Zero RFT - AUD$710

Fitted and balanced.

Does any one here run the P-Zero's...? They seem like the better deal to me as I always though Pirelli was a better brand than Bridgestone.

Any advice would be great - Thanks in advance...

the P-zero RFT is a brand new tire, it should be a gen 3 RFT.

The 3rd Gen Bridgestone RFT is still not out.

The P-zero non RFT is the best actual super ultra high performance tire. used on new ferraris, lamborghini and audi R8

I think hte P-zero RFT will be nearly as good as the non RFT so go for it!

Bridgestone RE050A RFT sucks

PS. NEVER GET pirelli Euforia RSC, this is more crap than bridgestone RFT

Can you get the Continental RFTs? They are WAY BETTER than the Brickstones

I asked about these and my tyre guy said they aern't available in the right size, the closest size was 255/40/r18.

Michelin PS2. What they loose in sheer dry traction they make up for in predictability and wet traction. And they last twice as long as the bridgestones.

I never get why people generalize like this. Suck compared to what? ... An absolute kick ass performance tire like an RE-11 or Advan 008; ok, maybe they are not in the same caliber as those, but you can do A LOT worse than the 050A RFTS. Trust me. Ever had some Kuhmos? Or lower end Yokahamas? Ridden on a "touring" tire? Or some of the other "budget" performance tires out there? They are worse, hands down. A lot of what people think "sucks" about the 50A's is just RFT tire characteristics. They are stiff and have to be to hold the car up with 0 psi. But they grip well, have nice turn in, and like I mentioned, not nearly as bad as other tires I have owned in the past.

Personally I will be replacing mine with PS2's (RFT) when worn. My past experience with PS2's and PE2's has been nothing but excellent and based on reviews of the PS2 RFT I’ve read, I think this is the best option given current RFT choices. Part of me hopes my tires will last till the Gen 3 stuff is out from Bridgestone and Michelin, but I don’t think that will be the case.

The non RFT P Zero is not as good as the Michelin Pilot Sport or PS2. In the old days Ferrari and Lambo used Pirelli pretty much exclusively. Those days are long gone. Do some research and you'll find Michelins, GoodYears, and Bridgestone's on Ferrari models from the factory. If I recall correctly the F430 used a Goodyear F1 that was exclusively designed for Ferrari and the forthcoming 458 (replaces the 430) uses a Bridgestone S001.

I would try to get the PS2 RFT tires if I were in your shoes. I wish BMW would exclusively use them on the 18" sport rims.

Any RFT would be worth considering over the Bridgestones.

+1 I switched to these and have been very pleased. Much smoother and quieter ride with no loss in handling.

there are a lot of P-zero on the history:
the first one is PZero assimmetrico renamed PZero giallo: old used in the 80s
Pzero rosso is bad touring tire
Pzero nero is quite good high performance
And now there is the new "P Zero" that is fantastic, outstanding the PS2 in wet and dry handling. It is used by the 2009 spec ferraris and audi R8.
IMPORTANT the name of this tire is "P Zero" with a space between the P and the Z. All the old ones are PZero
It exists in non rft and RFT 3rd generation

I just put the RFT Pirellis on my '07 328xi. First impressions are good, though I haven't driven hard on them yet. Paid $769 installed in Raleigh. (Dealer said he gave me a break on the price because the tires he first quoted me weren't available after I agreed to order them.) I will follow up after more driving.

I give runflats credit.... I go over monster pot holes at 100mph+ regularly and my bridgestones held up. It was a blessing to RFTs, i feel so vulnerable without them now. That sense of invincibility is gone, i must drive with extreme caution now for if i blow out a tire i am fucked. In a 3rd world country, where you dont want to have to be stranded anywhere, RFTs are awesome.

Hi all - thanks again for the info.

I have decided to order the "P Zero" tires. They take 8 weeks to come in though, so it will be a while before I can report back on what they are like.
