Sometimes I wonder how many E9x drivers are actually members of e90post.com (and visit the NY/NJ/CT/PA regional subforum). Because I've seen a few on the road that don't look like they are into their car enough to join an enthusiast site. For example, if I'm stopped next to a fellow E9x at a stop light or driving side by side with them, I'll look over to wave or give a thumbs up. But the other driver will sometimes give me a strange look or just turn away.

Now I know that some people in NYC will think that I'm crazy because I'm waving at strangers, but I always try to be friendly to people especially if we share a common bond as a motorist, and more importantly, a E9x driver.

Pretty sad people are like that. When I see someone else in an Fj, I usually waive and usually get a waive back.

I notice that people with WRXs and motorcycles wave at each other too. I think the E90 community would do well with an unwritten 'friendly wave or thumbs up' agreement.

Getting the "wave" from BMW drivers is rare. Only had a few times.

MINI owners do the wave most of the time. It is expected.

Not all BMW owners are enthusiasts. BMW sells 80,000 3-Series per year in the US. This forum has approx 15,000 members after 1.5 years. So, roughly 15% of E9x owners are members of this forum.

Yup, from what I hear owning a MINI is like joining a hip club. I loved the way my friend's Cooper S suspension and 6MT felt. It was like a supercharged go-kart.

I feel the same way as you E91 Dude. I drive an X3 but I'm getting my new 328xi this weekend. I use to honk and give the thumbs up whenever I pulled next to a fellow X3 driver (or BMW driver for that matter). One time I got these (:finger instead of a honk or thumbs up back.

The X3 was my first BMW and now that I'm getting my 328xi...my enthusiasm remains the same! So the next time you see someone with an BMW...say what's up and don't give the finger if someone is just acknowledging your tastes in autos.

By the way...this is my very first post on E90POST.com!

Dang, some people are rude. Congrats on your 328xi and registering on THE best E9X forum on the internet! What color combo/options did you get? I want to know in case I ever see you on the road so I can say hi. And post pics when you pick up your car (if you can)!

Awesome. What a beautiful color. Glad to hear that everything worked out with you and your X3. Are those lights a common problem with the 04s?

From what I read on X3World.com...there were some folks out there with the same problem. They were fortunate to have have their problem resolved but the issue couldn't be resolved for me. After months of dealing with this issue and finally had it and now I'm getting into the new 328xi.

I think the 2 things I'm going to miss about my X3 is the terracotta interior and the massive moon roof that came with it. Other then that...one must move on!
