New 135 owner in the PacNW

Just picked up a 2010 Le Mans Blue 135. Not a big fan of the 1 series styling so decided to order the BMW Performance Aero kit with the carbon splitters, to be installed mid-February.

Looking forward to seeing some other 1 series in the area. My driving region is mainly Woodinville/Kirkland/Redmond/Bellevue.

I'm guessing it's the same 135i we've seen a million times, but here's 1,000,001 and 1,000,002. It'll get more interesting after the aero kit and tint are done.

Nice...really nice. Congrats!

Love those SSRs on the Z4. Too bad they don't make them anymore...and in 1er offsets.

Dane good to have you here!

I'm having iDrive envy. I moved downtown PDX and my commute to work is 1.4 miles; I could've sprung for iDrive instead of 15K lease miles with my former commute.

The 2010 iDrive is pretty freaking amazing. It just works. It has the right balance of (reliable) voice commands, shortcut buttons, flexible screen content (widescreen nav, split-screen), bluetooth phone integration, nav features (route adjustments, traffic warnings), USB music (MP3), HD radio, general car settings (lighting, locks), etc etc.

I'm digging it. You should get a 2011 135.

I only have 2 regrets in regards buying my 135i.

1.) I did not order it with the 2010 iDrive
2.) I also did not get the anthracite headliner as I didn't do any research about the msport package prior to ordering and the 2010 car ordering booklet did not mention it.

Beautiful car man. I'm sure you'll love your 1 after some mods. Lowering the car and adding the CF spoiler really sets the car off.

WOW!! That is HOTNESS!!

May I ask who did the paint job on the aero pieces? How long did it take? Did you need to leave your car the entire time at the shop?

Now you must lower it maybe 1/2 - 3/4 inch to complete the look.

Congrats!

Thanks, and yes it needs better suspension... it will come in time.

I apparently am the only person in the Seattle area to order the 1 Series BMW Performance aero kit from one of our local dealerships (which I didn't know at the time). The result is that I was a guinea pig for everything, and it took months longer than I expected to get everything done. Missing parts from the BMW kit, installer with no prior experience, paint matching issues and more. I would expect that everyone involved is now experienced and won't repeat the issues I went through.

I used Haury's Collision in Lake City for the paint and install work, and purchased the kit through BMW Seattle. Both businesses worked through some sticky issues and were committed to an acceptable resolution.

Ideally, it's about 2-3 days for paint and install and you would leave the car at the shop. Optionally, you can have the parts painted at a body shop and returned to the dealership for install, but the timing and transportation logistics can get messy.

I prolonged my timeline by including a clear bra on the new peices which required the paint to cure longer (just to be safe). The painted parts sat around for a few weeks at the body shop. I was without the car during the install, then another 2 days while the clear bra was installed.

Did they scratch up your paint and leave buffer trails all over your car like they did to mine?

Nope. My experience wasn't without its faults, but I think they are capable of doing great work.

I had many issues with multiple service shops during the course of the project. I have come to the conclusion that the service industry is a painful reflection of a downward trend in workmanship and consumer expectation that goes into most products and services in the 21st century. Thank you global economics.

For those of us who still care, the journey is a frustrating, time consuming effort of micromanagement to get quality service, even when paying a premium. I made the mistake of trusting that I would be taken care of. I now know that is rarely, if ever, the case.
