Need some help with upcoming wheels.
Hello Everyone,
I'm going to be purchasing shortly a set of 19" VMR V710s staggered shortly and had some questions. I'm not there experience with the wheels category and need some feedback. I have a 335i with sport package. This alone gives my car the drop that I am satisfied with. Not looking for anything greater than that because i already have problems getting out of my driveway. However, I understand if you put 19" on your car, the gap will increase because of going up a size from my 18" stock wheels. Is there anything i can do when purchasing my wheels that will bring me back to the gap I'm at now without buying springs to lower it? Specific tires that are thinner than normal to decrease the gap? Would that increase the risk of bending my new wheels? Thanks for all your help in advanced |

The gap will not increase. The overall diameter on 18" and 19" wheel with correct sized tires is the same.

The gap will not change as long as you get the correct size 19" tires. The outside diameter of the wheel/tire combo should be almost exactly the same. But.... since the 19" wheel is larger and the sidewall of the 19" tire is shorter it makes the gap LOOK larger. In the comparison below, which shows typical 19" upgrade sizes, the 19" wheel/tire combos are actually a little larger than the OE sizes. Technically this would make the gap a bit less but it won't look that way. At most the front tires would be .25" closer to the fender arch.
Tire size comparison: Sidewall Diameter Revs/mile % Difference 225/45-17 4.0" 25.0" 808/mi N/A 235/35-19 3.2" 25.5" 792/mi 2.0% 255/40-17 4.0" 25.0" 806/mi 0.2% 265/30-19 3.1" 25.3" 798/mi 1.2% Jay
