Talking Planning to get a 320i but got a few ques

Hi, guys

I'm planning to get a 320i in Dec06/Jan07 in Melb, but budget is tight. So I am looking into the 320i (Not executive), coz i'd rather add 1.6k for the 16/156 alloy and dun really care about the lights and leather upholstery. Maybe another 1k for Sport suspension and steering. But wut's the real good thing about the executive model? Personally i dun think it's worth 5k .

Another thing is I'm direction blind so need a sat nav badly. Just wondering what's the difference between the radio nav and the pro nav system, coz the latter costs 3k more. As the "Radio navigation" implies, it seems it's only audible but not visible on the screen (tell me I'm wrong lol ).

One last question: which dealer in Melbourne is more likely to offer a better deal? Can anyone give me a rough on road costs estimate for my description?

Thanks in advance !

Welcome mate. The 320 is a nice car, i hope you know the pro nav system is $7000. Pro nav includes a 8.8 inch screen in dash which shows you visually the roads. the radio nav is obviously sound. If its no big a deal go radio, if your budget incudes pro nav i would recommend it.

Your dealership question is probably going to be answered by a local Melbournian member. I have no idea about Melb dealerships.

Thanks Chris. but 7k really makes things different. dunno whether can control the on road price under 65k including the pro nav (i doubt it).

Hi guys

I just recently ordered a 320d M sport, black saph, 18' alloys, black leather and brushed, tint and mats, no roof for $70k from a dealer in Newcastle.

They were great to deal with. Took the 320i/323i and a 320d for test drives. the dealer even let me take the 320d home for the night and just feel in love with its torque.

Around 10% off, I shopped around for over a month, other dealers couldnt even get close.

Ultimately I went for the 320d over the 320i and 323i because the mid range acceleration of the 320d just kills it.

Car arrives March 07. I am also very tempted to throw a chip in it ie 147kw/400Nm's

hey mate,

good choice on the 320i. I own a 320i M sports, 18" M wheels, sunroof, all black leather interior, brushed aluminium trim, auto, tint, chrome exhaust tips, floor mats - all this for the car....and myself... well, the sales rep threw in a BMW F1 sports jacket, M keyrings, caps, personalized plates, and a few other small gadgets and gizmos. I think I paid over $70k for the lot.

xenons look nice, but i personally think that unless u have spare money to throw in for that, id rather get leather seats first. Also, i found that BMWs in Melb seem to sell better if they have sunroofs!!?? guess a luxury car should have the basics.... leather and then a sunroof!!!!

Hi, LEA69. Yours seems a BIG bargain ! I dun like leather and sunroof personally. Maybe I'm a lazy person, it gets dirty very easily. And my old car got a sunroof, i hardly open it. But thanks for your advice anyway.

Is your 320i executive model ? Just wondering what is the list price for that and the final price you paid for.

hi Lea69, when did you negotiate the F1 Jacket, keyrings, caps etc? At the time of ordering or on pickup? I want those things too but I haven't yet asked.

The only "fringe" benefit I've managed to get so far is a place at a corporate function (as a tag along) "Drive the Range" event ...apparently they'll have the 130, 325 coupe, 323, 330, 540, 650, 740, X3, X5, Z4 to drive in 30 minute stints (20km runs), through the back country/mountains of SE Qld. No M cars unfortunately.

I got the 'freebies' like the jacket, caps (non car stuff) at time when i sat down with the manager and negotiated price. The sales rep who showed me the car etc asked me what i was willing to pay for my 320i M Sports (which is an upgrade package on top of the excutive). So i said $67k (which is too low..but hey, got to start low!!). The manager returns and says he wants $76 for it. And so the price went up and down untill we agreed on $72500 or $73500 (i cant remeber) and I said I'll leave a deposit then and there if he threw in........... jacket, cap, M key ring, chrome tip yadda yadda yadda.

Not to rub it in.... but the day I picked up the car... my gosh!!!.....

I got my car, car keys, all booklets etc and a huge flower bouquet, this massive hamper with champagne, chockies, cheese, dips etc... my god! It even had women's pyjamas with Doncaster BMW embroidered on it IN MY SIZE!!!! You tell me ....???!!! What brilliant service is that!!! Mind you they still make a killer of a sale from me buying the car, but the gifts...

and 2 weeks later, i got a wine bottle stopper with the BMW emblem engraved in it in the mail!

I would definitely recommend DONCASTER BMW people!! Brilliant service... and the sales rep.... he was just wonderful. (hey, maybe its cos I'm a chick with charm????)

AND!!!! I had the choice of the BMW driver training course down at their race track or all the materialistic gifts. I chose the gifts cos ive done training in the past. So please PUSH FOR WHAT YOU WANT - they'll give in!!!! Retail value of the gifts alone where $500 and the training is worth that too!!!

Yea, the doncaster guys give out lots of gifts, but of course which you have paid for. The time wheni bought a e46 the manager came out to get another 100 dollars out of me, but didnt succeed. Still got all those gifts tho, and some german lollie things.

But really i wish i could have sold all that stuff back to the BMw people for a better discount

10% less than what? RRP? or their first offer? including stamp duty? never negotiated for myself before, and would like some opinions from ppl who know what they're doing...

Sorry just to clarify, I mean 10% off the dealers original quote.

Note this includes all your options, stamp duty, CTP etc etc.

5% ain't bad and you're doing ok to get 5-7% off any European car, but you'll find that you can really push a BMW dealer and get 10% if you do the deal on the day.

After all there is a fair bit of stock around at the moment. And don't fall for the old "we need more money" or "you won't get it for that much" b.s. they're just trying to squeeze more money out of you and if you do that you've just failed Negotiation 101.

The dealer quoted me around 77k for my saphire black 320d M sport with 18' and roof, mats, and tint. I closed the deal for 70k. Factory order. Arrives in March.

Hopefully, it'll keep up with the 323i's through the twisty bits.

I suggest to get leather + sunroof + xenon first. Wheels and navigation you can always go for aftermarket.

We just took delivery of our 320i Executive, Jet blk, leather, sunroof, sport steering wheel last night. It was a factory order we waited for 2 months. We received few present like clothes, umbrella and ipod adaptor... re price, we got roughly 15% off quoted price. Quoted 69k but end up 61k. No one believe it when I told friends.... highly recommand Executive. you get interior light package. light under exterior door handle, leather, alloys, blue tooth....etc... I think it worth the every cent.
