Fuel Filter

Has anyone installed an in-line fuel filter besides the one in the fuel tank. I would like to install an in-line fuel filter where it is easy to access and a moderate size one. I loved the inline filter in my old E46. It was about a foot long and the size of a cylinder. Why did they eliminate that?! I was thinking of installing something like this

i am thinking that if since your add on filter would be downstream from the fuel filter located in our fuel tanks, it would not have much to filter since the fuel would have been filtered already by the time it got there.

The filters in our cars are too small. I doubt after 50k its still doing a good job at filtering. I remember replacing my e46 foot long cylinder filter and after about 50k black junk was pouring out of it.
