Can waterspots really etch into the clear coat and paint layer?
I was reading Zaino's website and found this:
"Now remember waterspots, bird droppings and bug guts if left on the paint finish for any length of time, will etch into the paint finish." Is this true? If so, boy am I in trouble, I've had water spots for the past 3 months now, or what I believe to be water spots -- greyish small circles. |

yes all three can but from personal experience I will say bird sh*t is the worst, then water spots and then bug guts. Usually bug guts are just a pita to remove cause they dry on so hard. Water spots most of the time are not a problem but if you get some mineral build up or acid rain you will get some bad spots. Chris

I know for a fact that bug carcasses left on will eat through your clear coat if left on long enough. Weekly washes didn't help my friend who is currently going through this experience and he was told by the local dealership that he has to put on a new clear coat ($2700) to protect his paint finish. After hearing this, I had Xzilon applied to my new e90. Hopefully I won't have to experience this!

Amen to: Bird crap is the worst. Here in FL birds as big as airplanes carpet bomb my parking lot on a ragular basis. It is like Battle of Britain. I remember in particular one case that did not get wiped off for like a week because I just kept forgeting about it. It discolored the paint (topaz blue). The color faded and if you know where to look you can see it clearly... it changed to yellow/green-ish a bit. It does not stand out but it is definitely there. Since then I associate bird crap with the blood of the monsters' from the movie Alien.
