Does run flat indicator tell of tyre pressure drops?

As above.
Do I need to regularly check tyre pressures or will the system warn me of any drops?

only significant tire pressure drops...its a flat tire monitor (FTM) at best not a true-blue tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), although US spec MY07 E9x models now come with a TPMS.

You still have to check your tires

From experience it will only detect major changes in tire pressure. You still need to check the air pressure in your tires regularly. I assumed I didn't need to check my tire pressures, then after checking them before a road trip, they were all very underinflated with very different pressures in each tire.

Also, I had a flat tire and the FTM didn't detect it until after I had the tire fixed. The noise the tire made was a much better indicator of a flat than the computer.

Not necessarily a bad thing. My father-in-law's '06 Corvette has TPMS and it is completely unreliable and annoying -- always indicating underinflated tires when in fact they are fine. That could just be sloppy GM engineering, though...

Will the TPMS tell the actual pressure (psi) in each tire?

I was astonished to read that the system that has a sensor inside the tire is set to alarm at 25% below the set pressure and that the external system that measures change in rolling diameter (as used on E90s up to now) is set to alarm at 30% below the set pressure. That folks, for a desired pressure of say, 34 psi would be 25.5 psi and 23.8 psi respectively. So, if you want your BMW to handle safely and the tires to not wear out before their time, you must, I repeat, must check the pressures with a proper gauge, preferably a Bourdon gauge like the old Drager (still have mine from the 1970's) or the BMW one that is available from the Parts Department.

The tire pressure sensor is very accurate and as stated above will flash a warning at 30% less pressure than the starting pressure. I recommend checking tire pressure at all gas fill ups.

Unless you live at/just near a gas station....your readings will be skewed by driving to the gas station. Maybe check it on a weekend morning when you aren't in as much of a rush to leave the house.
