DIY – Escort hardwire remote mounting

I know there are a lot of DIY's showing different ways to hardwire radars so I won't go into detail, I basically did the exact same thing in this DIY
E92, Hardwiring Escort into fuse box. by picus
But I wasn't satisfied by the placement of the remote display/mute in any of the DIY's I looked at so I decided to mount mind under the climate control.

I didn't really think about making a DIY when I started this just kind of snapped pics with my phone along the way.

To remove the heater and a/c controls Taken From DIY: radio removal by 12Esc

1. Take an old credit card (or something similar) and bend one (short) side of it in a 90 degrees angle.
2. Insert the card between the radio and the a/c-controls, bend side first.
3. Move the card to the upper/side of the a/c-controls and pull it, making sure its bend side hooks behind the controls.
4. The a/c control unit should move forward a bit. Repeat step 3 for both left and right side.
5. You should now be able to pull the a/c controls forward.

Now that it’s out you can remove the bezel from around the controls, there are little plastic tabs that clip in, slowly lift them and pull the controls out.

First thing I did was make a hole big enough for the remote to sit in. I originally used the one for the cigarette lighter which is smaller that the one in the hardwire kit.

Next I glued it in place on the back with JB weld (sorry no picture) and filled the front so make everything even.

Second coat to fill in the rest.

Every thing was sanded smooth and 3 coats of Trim Paint went on.

Picture of radar mounted.

Horribly blurry close up of the remote.

How well did the trim paint match the OEM color? I have the 9500ix and have been wanting to hardwire it into both my cars. That would be the only thing I would worry about.
