2010 E90 328i Sound System/Speaker problem.

Hey guys, so my '10 E90 328i has this problem with the sound system, the volume seems to be limited, i cannot raise the volume to its maximum potential. And when i do raise the volume to the max it goes, the speakers begin to make these cracking noises and cut off the sound. Its very irritating. I took it to my local dealer, and the worker told me that several people have came in with the same problem, and they cant do anything about it. Is anyone else having this problem? He also told me 2010 328i's do not come with amplifiers. My car is base model btw, no upgraded sound system. Just wanted to know if i was alone in this situation.

Had the same problem. Did the OEM Alpine hi-fi upgrade the week after. The base speakers didn't sound blown, but they make random noises when turned up all the way. Sometimes, they crack when there's supposed to be base at high volumes too.

It is actually not a problem, it is by design.

BMW uses a crappy IC amp in the OEM HU/iDrive when configured for the MY2010-11 Stereo system. Because this system drives the speakers directly from the OEM HU, when you max the volume it simply cuts power as it cannot move all 6-speakers with just a max of 15W for only 4 speakers.

This system was installed as standard for exactly one year (09/09 to 09/10) and from September production on a separate amp in the trunk (and 8-speakers) will be again standard.

WWONG, how much did the upgrade run you and where was it done?

Where can you upgrade to stereo at? I have a 2010 328i sedan with base stereo coming from an E92 335i coupe with Logic 7 and stereo sounds ok on the 328i but I miss the Logic 7 or better sound from my 335i coupe.

You can have a better Logic7 system in your E92 if you add a MS-8 to it.

I have a similar issue where the sound will fluctuate in a manner like there is a power surge driving the speakers (I have the Logic 7). Since my car is from 1/10, are there any issues with simply adding an amp to the sound system? Anything else you would recommend?

Have you tried turning the Logic 7 off and seeing if your "fluctuation" stops? Because if you are describing an actual amp issue, it won't go away by installing a new amp, because the L7 amp is also the optical-digital-to-analog converter.
