Iphone app - BMW Connected

My wife borrowed a Mini yesterday and she downloaded an app called Mini connected that allowed her to intergrate her phone with the car i.e. not just control the phone from the car BUT to control the car from the phone!

I have done some digging and have seen talk of there being a BMW version but no sign of date... has anyone heard of this?

Connected drive iphone app allows remote unlocking of car if you've forgot/lost your keys. Not tried it personally.

SDRX pointed me at this! thanks SD!

Looks like the app was released 2 days ago,
http://ax.itunes.apple.com/gb/app/my...5830?mt=8#ls=1
Any one install it yet?
Does anyone with a recent build have it working?
Do September builds have the October functionality?
How annoyed would you be if your car was just built and it doesn't have it?

"• Do you drive a BMW 7 Series built from October 2010?
• Do you drive a BMW 5 Series built from October 2010?
• Do you drive a BMW X3 built from November 2010?
If so, you can use the following functions with the "My BMW Remote" app installed on an Apple iPhone:
> Remote Door Lock & Unlock
> Remote Climate Control
> Remote Light Flash: remote control of configurable exterior light functions to locate the vehicle
> Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system
> Vehicle Finder: display of current vehicle position on a map in the iPhone - for locating a parked car within a radius of up to 1,5 kilometre."

I guess that's too bad for us early owners.

Sweet but worrying, I was told by my dealer any car built from September would have this capability, the app says October!

@kfiend
Indeed, a pain if your car is already built, I don't understand why it doesn't come in with the main September changes, of course there is still a chance they will, but at the moment the site says October.
Perhaps these changes will be available by software update, but I fear not!
I have a question outstanding with the dealer and BMW customer services.

Its not all bad, cars post 2008 to get this functionality

Or do you drive any other BMW model built from September 2008*?
If so, you can use the following services:
> Remote Door Lock & Unlock
> Google Local Search: address destination search on the iPhone and transfer to the vehicle navigation system
*Except X3 models built before September 2010 and Z4 models built before 2009.

@mlai
I was worried about that too but I installed the app and its prompts you of course for a log in, now maybe it caches your credentials, or maybe it doesn't I asume BMW have throught of that, particularly as the latest functionality lets you find the car if its 1.5 miles from the phone! That would just make it too easy! he he :-)

@Soon ExAudi Guy
I just went in on the link I posted fine.
I think itunes is being too clever, as it has country specific websites, so maybe thats not working from Canada.
If you go into ITunes and search for "My BMW Remote" in the app store that should work.

If the search does't work its under App Store > Travel > BMW Group.

@Grizzles,
I am not sure if its UK specific, I doubt it, normally stuff is Germany specific and then mainly available else where?

It has multiple language support so I am almost certain its not UK specific.

On the connected drive website,

http://bmw.connecteddrive.info/stage.php

Remote services is listed, in green on the left,

When I filter for both USA and Canada, it indicates they should be available and have been since 2008. Although I think the App has only been released in the last few days.

From the press release

"Remote Services.
Remote Services allow the vehicle to be locked or unlocked and the auxiliary heating or ventilation system to be activated by phoning a BMW Call Centre.

Description:
The innovative Remote Services from BMW ConnectedDrive provide case-by-case and straightforward assistance in situations where a breakdown service would previously have been required. For example, if the vehicle has been locked by mistake with the key in the boot, all the customer needs to do is phone the BMW Call Centre. Once the driver has been clearly identified – after answering two personal security questions – the Call Centre transmits a command via the telephone link to unlock the car. In the same way, customers can check whether they locked their vehicle if they had to park it in a hurry. Remote Services also allow the vehicle’s auxiliary heating or auxiliary ventilation to be activated via the BMW Call Centre. Before customers can use these Remote Services they need to complete a one-off activation stage via the internet. Apple iPhone owners can use the function via a special app.

Models:
All models.

Required options:
BMW Navigation system Business or Professional, Business mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface, BMW Assist, one-off BMW ConnectedDrive activation."

What's interesting and good news for those people with cars built in September is the implication appears to be the new features come in from September not October?
I guess we will just have to wait and see!

If people could share what they find that would be great!
Cheers
Paul

Have a look in the Itunes store and see if you can see it.
Good luck!

@Lukeswarm
Wow you got in there quick :-)
Yep I find it odd too, I am hoping its a miss type on the app site.
From the press release on the connected drive site the new features seam to be in September for the F10 and others, only the X3 is from November!
So there is hope, maybe you could check again with him and get him to clarify?

Phoned a friend (well the dealer) and he looked on their system for this. The only reference he can see is the "tooling" updates in August included this new functionality so.... we added 2 and 2 together and he thinks (99% sure) if your car was built post re-tooling in August i.e. anything September on this SHOULD be included on the f10 model

I have downloaded the app already... now just need the chuffin car!

@Lukeswarm,
Cool, our Sales manager didn't know anything about it.
He is looking into it, and is going to try and get it working on one of their cars.
I certainly hope its included :-)
Not long now till you get your car!
Very interested to hear how you get on with the Iphone app!

@Grizzles and Soon @ExAudi Guy

This Thread appears to imply its Europe only at the moment. No idea if that's true.

Did you manage to find it on itunes?

@Feco,
Sorry to hear that, perhpas they will release it at some point in the future.

@Lukeswarm
Thanks for the info I had not appreciated that.
I had assumed that some of the early September cars would have been on UK roads already but I will have to wait till next week :-)

Has anyone got the app working yet in Europe?
While the enhanced functionality is potentially only on future cars, there is still plenty for the older or not so old cars!
So someone somwhere might have the app installed and working?
There were some comments on the apple site saying it was good so I assume at least one person has it working :-)

If the September builds don't have the latest functionality that will be a big disappointment given lots of people waiting till September for the Combox 6VC. If people waited till September waiting till October would not have been a great hardship.

My fear is that the 7 series has had the combox since the beginning of the year and yet on the app descritption it mentions only October build cars will have this enhanced functionality. Lets hope them meant October delivery and not production :-)

BTW this is the next new wave of technology

BMW supports iPod Out by Apple

It's only available on the UK version of iTunes )you have to switch to the UK app store to find it), so I suspect it's not something that works in the U.S. yet.

Indeed exciting times :-)

@Biggie Smalls
Thanks for the feedback, that's a shame, I am sure it will be rolled out world wide soon!
I didn't realise you could search different app stores.
I suspect its available in other parts of Europe, I would be surprised if it was just the UK.
I think Germany will have it for sure.

If you install the app then look for the ore-loaded car you can use to demo the app then use the car finder it finds it in the factory carpark in Germany. It then gives you directions on how to find it! So... If your car gets robbed you should be able to go rob it back :-)
