Back after nearly a year without detailing. This MR2 has brought me back from hiatus.

Edit: First and foremost, I'm not looking for any business on this forum. I thought I'd just share the ridiculously long, hand cramping write up with others who are interested.

So I haven't detailed a car since last November, and I've only washed my car a handful of times since then. This has been a one delightful detailing experience :afro:

It's the same one as this one from years ago.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148647

It's been a while, and now I've got the tools to handle this car. Little did I know, it got a lot lower, and my back got a lot weaker.

I borrowed my friend's Canon S90 for this detail for pictures. It's a spectacular camera for detailing and well, all your photo purpose for the regular person. It's easy to use, it takes nice pictures, and it's compact.

WELL, LET'S GET TO THE PICTURES!

It looks pretty shiny, but it's actually dirty and swirly. Also, this is the original paint on a 21 year old car.

Okay these are a bit dark because it was actually really sunny in San Francisco. I couldn't tell how bright it was on that screen.

Dirt REALLY likes to gather here. :waiting:

And on the wing.

And here too.

In case you are wondering, this is an '89 Toyota MR2 AW11 Supercharged model. Here's how I can tell.

Yup, supercharged.

Seriously, supercharged.

And it doesn't have a turbo.

He was kind enough to leave this bird crap on the car for me too.

SPARKLE!

Oh whaaaaat?!

Make it stop!

I thought I was friends with this guy until I saw this.

Washed it with ONR because the sunlight was just beating on it in the morning. Clayed with Sonus Green and ONR clay lubricant.

Wheels got P21S wheel gel, tires got meg's super degreaser, and a lot of brushes.

Bokeh!

For once, they were quite helpful this time around.

Yup, pretty helpful.

So this funny thing happened. My gloss-it 5 inch backing plate ate a lot of soap somehow and half of the adhesives have detached. It works fine when it's dry, but it's puffed up just a little bit too. It makes everything really hard to center.

That's right, I've got glasses now.

Still being helpful!

Sometimes, I don't know why I invite them.

Now let's get to the uglies.

Okay, here are the real uglies.

That's pretty much what most of the car looked like. To be fair, it is 21 years old!

Now let's see some PROGRESS!

I hit everything with M105 on DD yellow or 4" orange, and followed it with M205 on 3M black waffle pads or 4" DD bleu pad.

To my surprise, most of this car required 4" pads even though everything is nearly flat.

I discovered today (well, I brought it out ) that this car's paint actually has a sparkle.

Oh god it's awful!

Wowowowow what an improvement!

Instant replay please! icture:

This morning, he asked "Does [MR2] look 20 years younger?"

I responded with this picture. KEKEKE

He thought about going wingless for a while. This will be my crusade against it.

Mirror finish!

I was dying by now. My back was so hurty from this low car, and I was not in any condition to detail, hahaha. These headphones are great at drowning out the polisher sound. If you're wondering what they are, they're Sennheiser HD280 Pro.

In the time I haven't been detailing, I've spent it growing my hair out. It's gotten pretty long now. :afro:

"Heal yourself, paint. HEAL!"

Now I'm not one to make jokes, but this is an absolute must have for all detailers.

Almost... done!

While I had his car in the garage, I let him take mine out for some food. It has no LSP on it :hmph:

Ahhh the tape balls. Oh, how I miss the shenanigans I pulled with these.

After that, I put DG 601 and 105 on the car, let it cure, dressed up the tires with Gloss it tire shine, dressed up the plastic with Meg's hyper dressing at 4:1, and moved it outside! The sun didn't come out today, so you get the authentic San Francisco fog!

Seriously, if he goes wingless, I'm going to hate him.

My friends polished the strut with P21S polishing soap. IT TURNED OUT GREAT!

P21S Polishing soap is MAGIC! HKS Exhaust on the AW11. It's loud. Trust me, it's loud.

I hope you've enjoyed reading this along with my semi comical quips. Critique and comments are always welcome. Detailing has never been so physically stressful and awesome at the same time for me.

Very nicely done. I really enjoy detailing cars like these. Newer cars look good after a detail, but these older cars really show the amount of work we put into them!

Actually guys, it's got a turbo. Joke's on YOU and his decals.

Thank you for the kind words, gents.

Older cars with original paint look quite bad ass when it's been restored. The old cars with good paint always surprise me the most.

Actually, unless the owner has done some modding, the label is correct regarding the supercharger. The supercharged MR2's were very rare and hard to find. I had an 85 MR2 (used), but when I was looking, I couldn't find a supercharged version anywhere.

Looking at those pictures really brings back some fond memories!

It's supercharged. He just gets asked whether his car has a turbo or not for whatever reason that may be. So it's just a joke!
