Considering canceling the Tire and wheel protection plan
I've had my car for less than a month now and during the excitement of the purchase I was convinced that the tire and wheel protection plan was worth the one thousand or so dollars I paid for it. Now that things have settled down a bit I'm not so sure that this was a good decision even though the cost of the wheels and tire are expensive to replace.
What are your thoughts on this and has anyone used is plan for tire ore wheel replacement before. How smooth and convenient was it for you? I've searched this subject on the forum but I did not see a conclusive yes or no for this protection plan. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. |

I did not get it, so far i could have gotten 3 new tires which would have broken me even, but knowing what i know now, I am more aware and avoid potholes more actively.
The nice thing is you get NEW tires when you get flats at no cost. Soooo, if you happen to be "following a nail truck" and some of it's load fell off the back |

Keep it, if you drive enough.
One month is not a good time frame to make a decision for the rest of 3 or 5 years. JMO

I bought it for my CPO '07 E92 back in January of 2008, and it was less than $700 back then. I had no problems with the runflats other than the rears were flat worn out by 11K miles and the fronts were almost that bad, so I replaced them with non-runflats. My original wheels are in great shape, although I replaced them about 2 months ago with some CSL replicas. I still have the coverage just in case...you never know when a pothole, piece of debris or whatever will cause damage to a wheel or tire.

What are your roads like? Mine look like the surface of the moon, and with the local government broke, it's going to get worse.
Spring before last, I took my 335 out of storage for its first ride of 2009. It was early in the morning and still dark out. I "found" a section of I-75 where the road was basically gone. Think of a pot hole about the width of the lane and about a foot in length. The fronts came out fine, but I bubbled the rear tires and bent the rear rims. Banged my head pretty good on the headliner. The cost of replacements were more than the insurance, so I came out ahead. With my last car, I came out even after replacing one wheel and tire. I'll definitely get the package again next time (if the let me). |

Come on folks! When's the last time you had a flat, run flat tire or not? The reason they sell the warranty is because they make money on it. You can replace a full set of tires for less thsn what they wanted for the protection package here in Florida! Save your money and mod your car with it. Run flats aren't that sensitive. It's almost as bad as people make the HPFP issue out to be. If it was as bad as this forum makes it seem, there wouldn't be anyone buying the 335!

My '01 330xi had 3 flats in 39 months - cost me a lot.
My '04 X3 had 2 or 3... I bought the tire warranty with my '07 335xi and nary a flat! Lesson learned: Buy the warranty if you don't want a flat. |

After nearly 25 years of driving, I have only had one flat (on the way to LV) about 13 years ago. I think it depends where you live. My rule of thumb is anytime a dealer is offering to sell anything extra, I would never buy it unless it's a freebie.
