Rust Proofing
There was some discussion from Canada forum about this and some thinks that there is no need to do the rust proofing.
What do you folks think? The thing in Ontario, Canada is that we use tons of salt for winter, unlike others. So my car is still very new, I am just wondering if I should do it this winter. From BMW http://brianjessel.bmw.ca/content/se...tailerID=10102 Quote:

Your car is already galvanized and large amount of body wax, undercoating, underbody lining. Not sure what else you would do, in terms of rust proofing.

Enough salt sitting on there will eventually cause panels to rust, but these cars are about as rust proof as you can get from the factory. Washing the car off a few times in the winter to remove the salt is likely enough to prevent any problems. I like to keep a coat or two of wax/sealant on the car too, but who knows if it really helps or just adds to my peace of mind.
No need for any aftermarket rust warranty. Not sure if it is true in Canada, but the BMW rust warranty in the US is 12 years/unlimited miles.

We also have the 12 yrs warranty in Canada.
So I checked a friend of a friend from Germany and he used to work at the BMW plant. He said there is no need since as what most ppl said the under body has been galvanized and sealed. Its just a waste of money. But of course its still good to clean the under part of the car during winter.

In my younger days I worked for a stealership. Big scams. Paint protection, rust protection, cloth protection all the same.
Keep your car detailed and sealed, put your own scotchguard on carpets etc. and you are good. |
