Any F10 owners with blank Idrive screens or music hiccups?

I've had some strange stuf happen to my F10 the last few days. One day the satnav/Idrive screen went completely off - during startup, driving, and parking up. Only after leaving the car a while and restarting did it come back to life.. anyone else experience this weird shutdown of the screen?

Futher when playing various tunes from those i have loaded via USB, at some point all volume stops. You can still see your selections on the screen, choose them - but nothing you do will let you hear them. Again, a long restart seemed to fix this for now..

Comments?

Once my screen wouldn't load up when I started the car. The screen went all orange then blank. I called the dealer and they said it was a prob w the software and the thing to do was let the car rest for 20 min. After this it started and the screen was fine. Strange!

I'm afraid we are going to be stuck with software glitches for a good part if not all of the car's life. Let's get used to the Park, Turn off (pull the plug), Reboot and drive a little until de next cycle. PCs are still crashing on a regular basis, MACs seem to be doing better - the question is: Is the F10 a MAC or a PC?

My old E270 was one of the models with the electrical problems and lost count of the times the volume button got stuck (on whatever setting it had last) and the fact that scrolling down took you up etc. As mentioned a park, ignition off, wait 30 secs and most times it cleared.

So far no issues with the new 5 series.

PC unfortunately! The software is a Microsoft based product, at least it was on the E60.

Not to spook anyone but that kind of shut-down of the iDrive is not that common and could indicate a hardware issue. Keep an eye on it. We used to have a hard reboot procedure in the E60, press the radio power knob, the CD eject and DVD eject buttons at the same time. Not sure how to do it the new hard drive based system. Good luck!

The software is a complete failure of a BMW product, and they don't care.

You don't mention the year or model.
Your profile mentions a 530i.
Is it an e39 or e60?
E60 has known issues with the I drive overheating and causing some issues you suggest.

I know this is an old thread, new member with black screen issue. Has anyone figured out the black screen issue on 2014 535? Screen goes black after 1/2 hour or so of driving. If I let the car sit for 1/2 hour it comes back on and works normal, then within 15 min to half hour is starts to flicker and go to black again. Music and nav still works through heads up display.
Thanks

iDrive Screen, Radio, iDrive Buttons Died

I have a 2012 528i with 101,000 miles. Ran an errand today and, when I got back in the car, the following went out completely:

*iDrive screen - completely black
*Radio - Buttons would not work, no sound, etc
*iDrive command dial and buttons - presumably are not working

I'm just beginning to research this issue. Solutions tend to be one of the following:

*Reboot the unit

*Sign of a hardware failure - with replacement costs running from $500 for DIY to $2000+ at the dealership

*Fuse replacement (haven't read anything where that has permanently resolved the problem though)

I'll post any updates as I work through this issue, but any additional insight would be appreciated.

Thank you.

iDrive Screen, Radio, iDrive Buttons Died

So, an update on this, my car sat for a couple of hours - and I started it up again and the iDrive, radio, etc. all work just fine.

Although it's nice that it's working again, in a way I don't see this as good news because it means it's not a fuse -- and it's a sign, maybe, that the iDrive components are going out.

Or, it may be a random glitch (which I realize is wishful thinking, and well electrical glitches aren't something you want to wish for in a European car...)

I'll be sure to update this thread if I continue to have any issues and/or have to repair or replace it at any point -- if others are also experiencing this issue, feel free to share your insights as well.
