oil service in toronto
hey folks what's up?
it's time for an oil service for my MC, which i bought 3 months ago. it's a US car so the dealers wont cover service for me. i asked the service ppl in Town&Country and they quoted $370 for a service... which i think is kinda a rip off. im thinking to buy oil&filter from them and go to a local shop and get then changed. the only problem here is the computer, since BMW wouldnt reset the computer for us if we do the service elsewhere. does anyone know which shop can do a computer reset? ps are dealers the only distributors that we can buy 10w60 from? |

If you can do the oil change yourself then it's an even better option. You can reset the service interval yourself. No need to go to the dealer for that.

im wondering how you can reset the computer counter? i brought it to a shop and they tried to reset it but apparently they couldnt... and they were saying that if we try to reset it, the counter might be messed up for inspection 2 which might not come up...

If you're on the east end of town Lakeside Motors is great. They've been servicing my car for years and I have over 300Km on my 540.

Always taken my bimmers to Bimmersport, but after a few careless mishaps from the mechanic(s) there, have started going to RMP Motors around 2 yrs ago. Bimmersport is probably a bit cheaper, but RMP does more quality work it seems. Mind you, it's been 2 yrs.. and maybe Bimmersport has improved since.

+1 for Rocco at RMP.
Anything I can't do myself, Rocco is the guy I trust to do it right. http://www.rmpmotors.com/

It varies...
I don't put many Kms on so it depends more on usage. Start with fresh in the spring after storage, then depending on #road trips & track days; at least once in the summer & in the fall.

You should change the oil before you put it away for winter storage, better to clean out the engine and have it sit with clean fluids over the winter, than for it to sit with the dirty and particulate filled oil that can cause problems sitting for a few months.

I don't have an M Coupe, but I had an M previously. I typically did around 6000-8000km between oil changes. (8000km = approx 5000mi).
I agree it's better to put fresh oil in before you store it. I think just as important as frequency of oil changes is the quality of oil you use. |

Why would I put fresh oil in to store the car, have condensation build up over storage and change it again before use in the spring? $60 of oil for no purpose...
I change mine in the spring - only put 4-6 K on per season. If I was running more 10K and twice per year on the M.
