Radar detectors PA
Are radar detectors legal to use in PA? If so which are some good ones to look at? My 335i is on order and I am envisioning a plethora of speeding tickets. I don't drive like a crazy person, but I've been known to go a /few/ mph over the limit...

I am 99.9% sure they are legal, thats what i've been told my people for years now. I've been stopped 4 or 5 times (only once for speeding and it wasn't using radar or laser) and they never once said a word about me having one..... A trooper told me "You know those things don't work right?" at a DUI checkpoint once back in the 993 days but thats it..... The Bel STI has recieved really excellent reviews (beat out the Valentine 1 in a test i recently read) and I have a Passport 8500 X50 which has been awesome. Theres some good info @ www.radartest.com for picking a detector. Anyway, sorry for the long read, hope this helps.

If they sell them in your local Best Buy or somewhere else, it means legal.

Some people are telling me that detectors are pretty much bogus now as the police technology has far exceeded what the detectors can "detect". Does anyone have information about this or specifically more information about what equipment Pennsylvania uses?

I have a Bel rx55 (had it for 2 yrs now) and works like a charm. Havent had a ticket in 2 yrs. Newer ones might work better. Detectors are illegal only in Virginia and DC. |

I'm wondering how prevalent lasers are in PA. It seems if they are going to primarily use laser, it wouldn't be worth investing in a radar detector. I know the V1 (and others) can detect laser, but not too well. Maybe we should just petition for higher speed limits...

The Valentine detects laser, but for it to go off in time to slow down, there needs to be others in front of you, if not by the tme it goes off its too late.
