How Long of Wait to Apply Wax Over Sealant
Hello all!
I am planning to detail my car this weekend. This is the first time I'm actually detailing a car myself. I've read up the instructions here and other places, gotten all the supplies, and I'm ready to go. My plan is to claybar the body, then use Klasse sealant over it, and top it off with carnuba wax. Can anyone tell me if there is a waiting period after applying the sealant (Klasse) and before putting on the wax? I know the wax would need 10-15mins of curing time, but do sealants require curing as well? Thanks! |

Yes, sealants range anywhere from 8 hours to 24 hours to fully crosslink. I'd recommend a full 24 hours for Klasse before topping with a nuba. Additionally, try to insure the sealant stays dry during the cure time as well.

What about between sealant coats? How much time to wait?

Thanks for the replies. Also wanted to mention that I am going to be using Klasse All in One polish. I just got the container, and the back says that no drying time is needed.
But I will give it 24hrs just to be safe. |

The manufacturer suggests 8 hours, but I still give it the full 24 hours personally when I use BFWD, or any sealant for that matter.

Sealants usually specify the timing. I use BFWD and if I apply it end of day, @5PM, I top it with a carnuba the next morning and the follwoing week with another coat of carnuba. Somoen else mentioned 845 and it seems to keep popping up in discussions of sealants and please remember it is a carnuba wax not a true sealant. But that stuff is solid I will have to say. Oh and I do a quick spray with a waterless wash detailer right before I wax but that kind of overkill I would think.

Klasse AIO will remove anything that was on prior...I wouldnt try to top that either.
use a dedicated polish like menzerna 85rd or megs 80, and then do an alcohol wipedown or chemical guys ezcream step, then a sealant, then wax. two coats of BFWD on separate days is pretty slick, so is two coats of collinite 845. |

I got Klasse AIO and Dodo Juice Supernatural as a gift, so I'm looking to use them first before trying other products. Have you had any unpleasant experiences with topping off Klasse AIO? |

I would suggest ditching the NXT altogether. Collinite is much more durable, if anything I would recommend using it as a sealant and then put a beauty wax on top of it. Putting the Collinite on top of NXT which isn't nearly as durable, probably affects the durability of Collinite as well.

I detailed my car yesterday. I went ahead and used Klasse AIO to clean up the paint. It did a pretty good job of it, and there was a nice shine coming from the paint. I didn't wait for the KAIO to cure, as the manufacturer said that there is no cure time required. I used a foam pad to apply the Dodo Supernatural wax and buff it out.
The darn Houston heat cured the wax under 10 minutes and I had to use a lot of elbow grease to buff it out! But in the end, it was definitely worth it. My vehicle looks better than what it did when I took delivery! Now I need to wait and see how well the Dodo SN holds up- I would go broke if I have to apply it every month! If so, then I might be looking for a sealant / polymer wax. |

Alternately you can apply a light mist of detailer or distilled water if your wax sets up too much to take it off without using so much pressure(as stated it's not the best practice to really have to push). Also use light layers on carnuba. I do hate to tell you though a carnuba will only get you about 8-10 weeks of use best case. It simply breaks down with sunlight, moisture and air.

Nope you can remove it after it sets up to a haze but should not top it and really try to keep mositure off it for the 24 hour cure. After that you can top it, wash it or whatever. The curing is just the process of the molecules bonding to the paint which is what forms the protecting layer. Waxes simply go on top of whatever they are applied to hence the breaking down over time.

Guys, this is a bit off topic, but how long after you apply sealant is too long to apply wax? I put a coat of wolfgang sealant on about a week ago. Is there any reason why I can't put a coat of wax on it now?
