iPod connection and album art

Hi Does any one of you know, when connecting a pretty old iPod (4 years old, classic model, color screen and 60 gig), you will see the album art on the nav screen? I know it's possible with a new iPod or my iPhone4, but I don't want to place my iPhone in the iPhone holder everytime I step in to my car (when it arrives in januari)

Haven't heard of a compatibility issue with older gen. iPods.
The BMW announcement didn't mention it either:

* iPod One-wire integration: No longer will an iPod connection require the “Y-cable”. The original iPod USB cable is all that is required to connect the device to the vehicle. This simplifies the connection by not requiring the aux-input. The music is transferred directly from the iPod digitally to the HiFi system via USB. Therefore as of September, the Y-Cable will no longer be included with iPod/USB Adapter (6FL).

* Album Cover Art: The ability to display album cover art will also be included with the iPod/USB Adapter. If cover art is contained in the metadata of the song, it will show on the vehicle display while the song is played.

Btw: cover art can be displayed in the split screen side panel. When the image is high res. it looks terrific.

The images from the Apple store are usually good enough.

But if you're still missing cover art for your own music collection, check this excellent site:

Don't bother. The images are converted to low quality when transferred to the older ipods. High res starts with the newer ipods. I have an old ipod classic 30Gig and it only displays crude picture quality. I also have a new Ipod touch as well, the album pictures are really crisp when thats connected.

The ipod must be running OS4. The Ipod classic does not. The touch (2nd gen onwards) and latest Nano (supposedly) work as long as they are running OS4 or up.

You have to. It's not about pictures. My first generation nano would not work at all. The second generation one worked well.

Or you can just get a cheap USB flash drive. It works just as well as an iPod (album art, playlists etc) and no cable to take up space.
