Continental ExtremeContact DW - an obvious no-brainer???
I'm so sick of paying $$$ for stupid Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires that aren't even particularly good, according to the latest Tirerack tests...
Seems like the Continental ExtremeContact DW tire beats the PS2 in every way (including comfort!) and massively in price (about $60 PER TIRE!)... And it's ranked #1 in its class in the user surveys too... Oh, and the Continentals come with more tread! 10/32" instead of 9/32" WTF is Michelin trying to pull??? Is it just basically luxury pricing because of reputation? (Seems like it to me...) So why would anyone not buy it??? Just wondering, since this seems like the answer to the eternal question of "which tire to buy?"... this one seems like the best choice unless one is going for ultimate grip... Any thoughts? Thanks! |

Bought these tires back in July, there amazing. Quieter than the PS2's and alot better life. Furthermore, they have just as much grip as the PS2's and cost alot less. I will admit however that you loose a touch of steering feel compared to the PS2's but it's most likely a trade off for the quieter ride. In my opinion, if money isn't an object and you don't mind replacing tires more frequently, go for the PS2's, but if you'd rather save some money without sacrifcing performace, the DW's are awesome.

I agree that the DW is a great tire. I replaced my Falken FK452's with the DW and noticed how much quieter they are. I also noticed an increase in wet grip and noticed that these tires can be rotated. These tires also have a longer wear rating and costs a little lower that other comparable tires. I have staggered 19's and couldn't rotate the Falkens. The Contis can be swapped side to side, or rotated all the way around if you're running square. Had these tires for about 2 months and have driven about 1400 miles on them.

AluFelgen: Sweet, thanks for sharing. When did they come out? (Just asking this so I know how much of a sucker/how much money I have wasted on PS2s, heh...)
Sorry I sound so bitter, folks... I just got a nail in a tire recently and paying basically $400 for ONE tire (including tax + labor, and ordered from a non-Michelin store, coz no one ever has it in stock when you get a sudden flat) is just nuts. |

I went with these tires as well. Still need to get them mounted, but everything I have read makes me feel like I made a great choice.

i've had about 6 months on them and i can't say enough about them. i actually still have them on (normally i'd have the winters on now, but read my post about stuck wheel locks for why im still using summers) and to be honest, they actually have really good grip considering near freezing temperatures!
but for summer driving, wet or dry, they're unreal. driving in the rain is a pleasure with them and they're super comfortable on highway driving and city driving.

Tirerack user reviews are my favorite place to look when determining what tires to get. You can search by make and when you look at the Conti DW and the PS2 RFT they both have excellent user ratings. The big difference is cost the DW is about half of the PS2 RFT and last longer with a 340 treadlife versus 220 for the PS2 so the DW lasts about 30% longer for half the cost. The PS2 would have to perform sexual favors in addition to being a good tire for them to make sense.

The Continental DW is a very good value indeed. It is very close to the PS2, just a bit slower steering response with a slightly softer ride.

Michelin PS2 are plainly very good tires. Quality control is better than other tires. Construction looks better too if you compare how the inside of the tire is finished/molded.
Take a look at Kumho Ecsta SPT also. Similar in tread design and I suppose sidewall feel. Half the price. Though if you make tires last I would probably just pay double for the PS2s. Screw tire rack reviews...

Love these tires. Just got mine installed. Lots of road noise until broken in, but already the grip is way above the general UHPs I had before. The response is so much better the car felt twitchy at first to me, but I'm sure the super light rz-dfs have something to do with that as well.

What about comparing them to the POTENZA RE760's? (Also Non-RFT)
I have come down to a choice between these two.

These tires are awesome! I played around in the rain and had trouble breaking them loose. The stock run flats spun out any time i gave a decent amount of throttle when it was raining.
