2008 335xi rough idle

i know this has been discussed before, but i cant find someone that has categorized the same exact issue. its cold where i live, when i start the car in the morning i see the rpm at like 1,000 then it drops down to about 700, and then while still at 700 after a few seconds the car feels like its about to stall, like it shakes a little and sounds like its about to die out and then the car is perfectly fine. i have had this happening to me in the winter every year since i got the car a few years ago. i recently got a jb+ and i have done the unplug mod as well as the solenoid bypass, could those have something to do with it, i know that doesn't make much sense since the car did this before i had any tune, so is this normal for the 335i on a cold start-up. i see a lot of people say the 335i idles a little rough on a cold startup, so i guess its normal? i also have a bt scan tool and i find no faults with the car, if something was wrong would it find a fault? thanks

This has been coming up a lot the past few days. Check my thread and maybe you can find some answers.

I was wondering about the pump priming with the software update. Does everyone wait for the 3-5 seconds when the buzz for the priming is happening to start your car or do you just start it while the buzzing is happening?

I wait but I was just wondering what everyone else does.

i wait as well. i have started the car while priming and sometimes it feels like it wants to shut off. i'm schedule to get the pump replaced.

Have you had any issues with the pump or are you just getting it replaced under the recall?

I haven't had any issues and Im a little worried to have them tinkering around in there if nothing is wrong with my pump.

Let me know how it goes. I'm not too excited having them mess around with my car either.

they updated the software because of the long starts. works fine now, but its just a fix. as i said before, when staring car before fully primed, you can tell the problem is there. and after the ABC exposure, they will replace it if you request when having this issue under warranty.

I never thought to wait when starting, good idea. when did the prime update software start? 18 degrees right now.

I guess it would make sense to let the prime process complete before starting the car, hopefully that would help make the hpfp last longer.

thank you for your responces. i already have the latest software and i dont think its hpfp because like someone said before how come its only in the winter and how could i have had this problem for so long.

also i dont think its anythign with the car misfiring or anything because like i said, i have the BT scan tool and i get no faults. i think its probably something with the car and the turbos just being cold and warming up. and i think this because, it only happens when the car and the weather is cold. and soooo many people have this in there 335i's that i think its just normal.

+1 it warmed up today and all my problems went away and I stopped throwing codes? But really rough idle defiantly is NOT normal, so im still searching for an answer before I take all my mods off.

I had a really rough idle for a while without throwing any codes, eventually one night i started her up and it was un-drivable and threw a bunch of misfire codes. Turned out to be a bad injector

its not very rough, and it is only for a few seconds, would that be considered normal? or is any roughness for any amount of time considered to be abnormal?

Thats kindof what is happening to me but in reverse. I had a misfire one morning without any previous problems, then it went to rough idle, now its going away.

This started occurring to my 2008 335xi about 2 weeks ago once the temperatures dropped to below 30 degrees. Very rough idle, with it being less noticeable at higher speeds, and a check engine light.

I dropped off my car at the dealership Friday morning and was told to pick up the car Saturday morning. When I went to get the car the check engine was still on and the car was idling very roughly. I let the guy who delivered the car to me know, and we both noticed that there was an oil colored liquid coming from my driver-side exhaust pipe (engine running rich?). He said it may need a new fuel injector or it could be the HPFP. I already had the HPFP replaced a few months ago, so we'll see what they tell me after today.
