Question Tint shops in Montgomery county, PA

I am looking for a good tint shop in or around montgomery county, specifically around king of prussia, PA. I dont mind driving 20-30 miles if there's a reputable tint shop outside the area.

Anybody have any experiences (good or bad) with tint shops around here? Appreciate any responses...

I have heard that Sunsations (Spelling?) in Bridgeport does good work. A guy that I work with got his e90 done there and he is very happy with it.

Shady Tinting in Bensalem. The new law is 70%, so its not worth getting tint unless you willing to break the law. Your color looks best with 35% IMO.

Been out of the country (and away from my baby!!) for a month now... havent yet gotten to the tinting yet.

The place in bridgeport (Sunsetional i think) that some have suggested seems to have some mixed reviews. There are a couple that I will check out soon... Chariot Graphics is Norristown and Car Pretty in Philadelphia.

Another reason I am holding off on this is that I am not sure how tinting above the 70% allowed by PA state law will affect the yearly state inspections. If i do spend money on tints, it will be atleast 40%. Anybody have any inputs on this? Since the dealership does the state inspections, has anybody had issues with this in the past.

I am going to talk with my dealer (Devon Hill in Devon, PA) this thursday. Will post once i have his comments on this issue.

Bludgeon29 - Please keep us updated. I am picking up my car on the 29th at the perfomance center, and as soon as I get back, I want to take it in for tinting. Think you will make a choice by the first week in April? BTW, I work in KOP, so I am looking in the same area as you.

Will do... BTW I am gonna post this question about tinting above state law on the main forum; lets see if anybody responds.

lets keep it simple so people are not confused, the legal limit in PA is 30% on the front windows. i beleive you can go as dark as you want on the rears. when i say 30% (inverse of 70%) that is the amount of light that comes through the window film. i have 35% on my G35c and dealership has no problem passing inspection. plus in my opinion anything darker then 30% (like 5% limo tint) is ghetto and takes away the class of our BMWs.

i think you managed to confuse me... PA state law is 70%, that means 70% of light passing through the film; which is a VERY light tint. when i say I want 40%, i mean only 40% passing through... ergo a darker film.

Anyways, check up with Devon Hill BMW and as long as its not a limo tint, state inspections should be no problem. Will know which tint shop he recommends by tomorrow...

This 70% thing is bs. That's basically nothing and just throwing money away on a tint. You can barely notice anything until 50% IMHO. That said, I would really doubt inspection would be an issue with something darker than legal.

I'm still casually searching around for somewhere with ceramic tint around here, preferably Huber Optik (sp?) stuff. I've read here and there that "normal" tints can diminish comfort access range and ability, although I don't know if that's really a valid concern.

Thanks, it's killing me to wait for it. Each day, I call the number "scheduled for production with no date" argh!

I ordered around 2/3 or so, dealer promised a March build (Otto's), finally I got the 1800 # people to "estimate" that it should be a week 13 (March 25) build, but who knows, with the recent engine shortage. I will be kinda fired up if I don't get a March build. That said, I expect to get it late April, or more likely early May. At least all this ice/slush/crap weather will be gone by then! I will miss my WRX in that stuff. Don't have the cashflow to keep both though.

I contacted Huper USA and they gave my contact info. to an installer in New York. A bit far for me to travel at this point.

We have "regular" metal tint on our other car and it hampers radio reception. I don't listen to radio so it doesn't bother me, but if radio reception is a concern, consider alternatives like ceramic tint.

I'd resist asking advice from the dealer, for many reasons but primarily, because they should be quoting you state law anyway. Take the car to an independent for inspection and you'll have no inspection worries now matter how dark you go.

Eh, dark tint or not, independant shop = money + "oh wow, I get to hammer around a 335!" vs dealer = free and they see them every day. I shall be going to the dealer I really doubt a dealer will fail inspection because of a tint that's not limo-obnoxious-dark.

Last I checked the PA code, evaluating a car's tint for % light passage is not a part of the inspection process. Also, it's not that anything less than 70% light passage is illegal. Rather, PA law merely makes illegal tint which an officer can't see through. This is obviously subject to interpretation. To be sure, if you are concerned about being pulled over for tints, don't go lower than 25-30%. That said, I've had 3 cars with tints ranging from 5% - 20% and have never had a problem w/inspections or police. I've been pulled over for speeding quite a few times in the past cpl of years and the officers generally mention the tint being dark, but don't actually ticket for it.

EDIT: I'd recommend Sunsations as well..have heard good things about them.
