Riss Racing Air Intake

I've done some searches for this intake because it is the design I'm looking for and can't seem to find any for sale. Riss Racing seems to be in business, but they are selling the BMS dual cone intake as well. Odd...

Does anyone know who sells the RR intake or if it's even for sale any longer.

TIA

Yeah, I did some reading and saw all the BS. I missed all of that because I bought the 335 after that happened.

I know the BMS DCi makes power, but in my previous life I designed and manufactured intake systems for BMWs (E36, E39, E46) and I want to make a shield for whatever intake system I go with. Stop and go traffic with an unshielded DCI is not good....heat soak is a b*tch.

^ it's more noticeable with NA cars, but hot, dense air (especially in Fla, Texas, etc) will rob power even with FI. If you are constantly moving it's not a problem, but how many of our cars get stuck in stop and go traffic?

Like I said, I had a business that designed and manufactured intakes. There are many parameters that hot dense air can negatively affect.

I won't even run an unshielded intake on my Subaru Outback.

detonation, and poor readings (air readings for DME) for MAF cars is just a few. Not sure how the MAP deals with disturbed air, hot air etc. Can't help with mileage and performance

not many if at all are running shields because they aren't offered. Doesn't mean it's right...

I understand that you take things more seriously when you're in the business (FMIC business previously for you), but I think that we often overcomplicate things. You stated yourself that a DCI even in TX or FL is not a problem when your moving and is only a problem in stop in go traffic. But who cares if your car loses a couple of peak HP in stop in go traffic? Its not like you're going to be racing in stop in go. Or are you

I'd love to see the temp delta on each side of a heat shield.

secretsquirrel,

I'm not in the business anymore, but I still want what's right for my own vehicle. Call it anal-retantive, but I see it as making it 100%, not 85%.

<I'd love to see the temp delta on each side of a heat shield.>

I've seen it.....noticeable.

Yes, the cars still make power, but things are not optimal. That's all I'm saying. I learned so much in those 6 years (intake biz) I could not do it any other way.

Racing in traffic? Not in Virgina....cops here are way over the top to begin with.

BTW, when was the last time that squirrel (in your avatar) was drug tested?!?!?!

If you monitor the air intake temperature you'll find even with the stock intake temps rise like crazy sitting in traffic. It's because the air heats up passing through the turbos, even just sitting there, and without airflow over the intercooler temps shoot up like crazy.

^ The stock air box still does a better job of insulated the filter than NOTHING.

Also, those two little turbos generated a lot of heat in a tight engine compartment. NA engine compartments don't deal with that much heat build up (even in stop and go traffic).

My AMG SC did not generate as much heat as the 335 TT do.

Mike, ONE person did heat testing that I've seen on this board.....that's not enough.

Further more I don't need to do it, as I've seen enough dyno testing and real world applications for enough different cars to make my mind up.

I will fabricate a shield for my car, as that's all I am interested in.

Heat Soaking is not nearly as "noticeable" on this car (probably because of its intercooler and large curb weight), their is a power-loss depending on your other mods. Lots of depends in the equation of course.

If you can work out a solution to reduce heat soak by all means go for it.

The BMW is not a magical engine despite its excellent heritage, this vehicle can heat soak, she has an internal combustion engine

That pic is me. I don't do drugs, just a nice rubdown with a clear cream each morning and hit the weights hard. It may look like my muscles are out of proportion, but you should see my nuts. But you'll have to wait till spring when i uncover them as they are buried for the winter.

This forum needs a myth busting series. Shielded vs non shielded DCI's should be one of the tests. I'd love to see the data. This little squirrel doesn't care one way or the other. I just want to see the data. If I shielded DCI proves to be that much better, I'd gladly get one. Plus it would provide a nice place to warm my nuts on. Head out of the gutter boys...
