Audi > BMW: New member from Brisbane.

Hi guys new member from Brisbane I've been looking around at BMW forums for a while and I've decided to join you guys here

Currently driving a stock standard e92 335i, interested in modifying the car (more power/torque, body styling, entertainment system, wheels) without voiding my warranty.

I also enjoy detailing cars not your average detail for example I spent 10 hours on the exterior a few days ago, I would post photos but thanks to brisbane's great weather it has already been rained on twice

Hoping to get to know you guys better and learn more about these cars on this forum

Oh and I only put the Audi > BMW in the title to make you click on it.

Welcome.

Search for something called PROCede. Buy it immediately.

And 10 hours is a helluva long time!
Is it a black car? Mine's black and I'm at the stage where I've got some light to medium swirl marks... going to pay for it to get 'corrected' soon.

Its the shitty orange peel water based clear coat BMW use now. If you look close on any new BMW, you can see light swirl marks as well as a dull 'orange peel' effect.

Ah yeh I know what you mean about the 'orange peel', how the paint isn't super smooth it's like got a textured look? That was bugging me the other day thinking wtf is wrong with my paint, then noticed that all BMs have it. I think in some weird way it actually makes the paint a lot 'stronger'.

Its just fkn terrible! No matter how much you clean, polish and wax your car the end result is always the same with that shit textured 'orange peel' effect. It can be so bad if you get the right angle and reflection.

As well as the orange peel effect, if you get the right light u can always see small swirl marks. Specially on the boot

Yes ... and the darker the colour, the worst it looks. One of the reason why I went from Le Mans blue to Titanium silver.

Welcome Koncept!!!

yep, my old black mare aint what she used to be.

swirl marks are fairly bad from taking my car to too many shitty car cleaners.

taking it to final inspection is def on my list of things to do.

You win thread title of the year.

Welcome mate. Get a piggyback tune immediately. Look for JB4 or PROcede, install it, look for some big V8s on the road and that should keep you entertained for a while.

BMW changed their painting process a few years ago and orange peel is what you get as result. Apparently it more friendly on the environment.

You need to wet sand it if you want to get rid of it. Do a search , plenty of people on these forums have done it with amazing results.

And yeah - thumbs down for taking your car to s shitty automatic car wash or those hand wash jobs. I don't let anyone who gets paid minimum wage touch my car ..

the car is space grey, but according to my gf I'm a bit of a perfectionist... in those 10 hours I washed the car thoroughly, then removed all contaminants/oxidation on the body paint (the whole body not just visible contaminants/oxidation) and wheels, removed any swirls I could see, waxed the whole car including the wheels, polished all plastics incl. headlights tailights indicators, etc the list goes on. I had 2 black cars before this one, most rewarding color to detail but a bitch to maintain...

is the prize one of these PROcede things?

So with PROcede do I need to find a tuner or is it plug and play? Will it affect my warranty at all?

I know what you guys mean about the orange peel thing... I'm not a fan of it either... Might check to see if the BMW workshop will give me a respray without the orange peel...

whew, I hope you treat yourself just as well as your car when you shower, that's serious dedication and welcome to the forum.
