Rim Scratched Again!

Rim scratched again. This time by the club's valet parking guy. My rims are just too wide, 9J front and 10.5J rear. Offsets flushed to the fender. The guy parked my car in one of those mechanical double deckers. The metal upstands at both sides just barely can accommodate my car, may be 1 inch room at both sides. The guy scratched my rear right rim and he denied it. I complained to the management and waiting for their reply.

I learned to drive very carefully with these wheels and managed to avoid scratches, but can't control the valet guys. Guess I need to take it to the rim shop for polish and touch up again.

Anyway, guys, DON'T PARK YOUR CAR WITH WIDE WHEELS IN ANY MECHANICAL CAR PARKS. YOUR RIMS WILL RUIN FOR SURE.

just leave the scratch there for a while. don't know if the management will compensate me, they may say all sort of craps and deny. just a few hundred bucks anyway. but need time off to take it to the shop.

next time i need to either park myself or order them not to park on the racks.

I have the Forgestar F14 gunmetal. In Hong Kong the rim shops are fantastic and can polish and touch up within a few hours. Just like brand new after and cost only 50 bucks US or so. But it's suck since I need to take time off to fix it.

Ya, I know I owe you guys photos but just wanna lower my car before that. Now have to fix the rim too.

Sorry too hear that. A first scratch on a new wheel is always the most painful. Good thing is there is a solution to bringing it back to it's "brand new" look.

Oh well, as I expected, the stupid valet denied that they scratched my rim. Demanded a joint review of the CCTV footage and don't know if they will entertain me.

Anyway, guess I'll just suck it up and take the rim for touch up tomorrow. Only HK$350. But really mad. I have no problem paying that but just believe that the one who caused the damage should admit it. I could have forgiven him and not asked him for the compensation.

pretty soon, H&R most likely. $3800 installed, $800 alignment.

pretty sure I will lower it, so might as well do it sooner. Still at 700+km, long way from breaking in though.

Hi rc. In your research would you know the difference between H&R and acs in respect to the drop and stiffness? Been waiting for end of my 6month ownership to order the acs in march but still open to anything.

The only one who has ACS springs I know is ksquare, but his GT has hydraulic rear suspension which is different from our F10. Don't know any one with 4 springs swapped.

The ACS should be around 1" drop whereas H&R should be around 1.4". No info. about which is stiffer.

If you get the ACS from BMW HK should be around $10k installed. $4K installed for H&R. IMO, I wouldn't spend $10k on springs only. If over $10k I rather get the whole coilovers, the venders usually warrant 1 year anyway.

Thx rc3. Getting too many views when I ask around. Very confusing as I have never lowered a car before. Let me know how you get on with your decision.

This is what I'll do. Spend 4k on the H&R springs and keep the stock shocks. This set up will be the cheapest and shouldn't be too stiff. From my research the 1.4" F and 1.3" R should fit my taste, 1" drop is still too high IMO.

Drive a year or so and see if I wanna change to other coilover. By then, there should be plenty of reviews and can really decide which brand to go.

Hi RC3, sorry to hear this happy to your nice rim. Nothing more plainful than those scractch, as well as those chips/spot hit by doors parked aside.
Hope those wound rims can become just like brand new after fix.
Good choice for the Forgestar F14 gunmetal

Hi there, Jacky. Nice to have you here. Thanks for the compliment and concern. Rim is fixed and good as new now. Those guys eventually denied what they have done so I just suck it up and forget about it. From now on nobody touch my car at that club.

From your list of own/previously own cars, you seems like a pretty serious bimmer guy, any mod for your F10? Nice if you can share photos, experience & etc.

RC3 and friends,

I mega-scratched a 2nd rim, over 10 inches, but funny this time I saw the damage, but I did not feel the pain.. something has changed. I must not care any more..

ooch.... grimmy. you scratched it yourself this time? or your family member? 10" is quite a scar face.....

yeah, the second time the valet guy scratched my rim, i sort of don't care too. 1st i know it can be repaired to mint condition. 2nd it doesn't cost much. $450 per rim only (used to be $350, but cost raised).

if you don't care, stay tune. now you can drive wildly, up curb, crazy turn, whatever you like. let the rim scratched a few more, then repair in one go. haha.

RC3

well I guess i don't not care completely yet, as I can't imagine myself doing as you described ..
big or small scratch is it the same cost? ..not much incentive to minimize the damage haha
i did it myself this time, ironically i had found a perfect parking space and parked well to avoid getting 'dinged' by neibouring parkers, but then i proceed to so casually give myself a massive scratch as i am leaving -talk about not being able to stop fate
aiy, installing all round cameras is too difficult, I'm just going to be lazy and let them scratch if they are so inclined
