Ever Regretted Buying the 335I?

Greetings Guys!
Am sure lots of you have been asked these question before but please allow me to ask it in a more detailed way.
First of all , am about to make a move a go for a CPO bimmer this Summer and it's gonna be most likely the 335i, so i want to know your input on the Following:
1) do you regret getting a 335i and now think you would've been better off with the 328I? ( reliability issues)
2) if you own an Automatic! do you regret this choice and wish you had a Manual?
3) if you Modded your N54. do you regret this move ?
Thank you

1) I do not regret it one bit! You dont see many 335i owners wishing they got a 325, 328 or 330; it's usually the opposite. But everyones situation is different, and any shape or form of a bimmer is great. I had a E90 325i and loved that car, was just lacking that extra push for me. As for reliabilty, it is always questionable as there are some 335's that haven't had any problems, and some that had a alot of problems. I would say its a gamble. Its always a good move to get a CPO one with some warranty and even purchase an extended warranty (always a good idea with any series BMW imo).

2. My 325i was a 6spd and I went to an automatic 335i. As much as I wish I found a 6spd one, the ZF transmission in these cars is great. Very fast and aggressive shifting if you are in DS mode. Paddle shifters are fun on the backroads. I still feel pretty connected to the road in an auto. Sometimes its nice to just sit back and enjoy the smooth ride.

3. Have not added any performance mods yet, but I am sure I will not regret this move when I make it.

Hope this helps a bit

Nope...my Wife loves it. It's comfortable, powerfull, upgradable and handles well and gets 27mph...what else do you need?

And like I said before she would probably kill me in my sleep if we bought her an Auto.

1) I never met ANYONE that regretted purchasing a 335i.

2) If I wanted an AUTO, I would have bought an Accord. (I will probably get flamed for that, but so be it.)

3) These cars were meant to be modified, as long as they are tasteful and of good quality parts. (Do your research.) BMW held back a bit as they did not want to tread into M3 territory. I think of mods more as making the 335i the way it should have been built in the first place.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I own a manual. Wish I had the 6AT at the drag strip, would be a lot easier to pull off those 1.5 60' LOL

3) if you Modded your N54. do you regret this move ?

NO!...one failed injector in 54k miles has solid reliability written all over it...original HPFP was still fine too but got replaced under recall anyway...

500whp now, this car totally rocks

1) I probably wont be buying another BMW... Its a really fun car to drive and the BMW slogan holds true. However Cars that are made to preform aren't necessarily made to last. Ive owned my e92 for 6 months (e92CPO) and have had several visits to the service center for various mechanical and electrical issues. My next car will definitely be a Japaneses import or American. I don't regret it because I love to "DRIVE The shyt outa my cars but its a PITA to own.

I had a 330, loved it. Bought a used 335 AT. When its running, I love it more than life itself! Vanos, Leaky injectors, fuel pump... once replaced, the sun shines! I will do it again! 1M is my next car.... n54 and all! Jb4, Fbo, meth injection.

AT... just means I am faster. Mods, just means I am faster. N54, just means I am faster!

sorry to be the stick in the mud, but here's a completely unbiased opinion from someone that has driven quite a few performance cars in the past.

1) do you regret getting a 335i and now think you would've been better off with the 328I? ( reliability issues)

no, i would never get a shitbox 328i - too damn slow

the one thing i will say is that these cars are super sensitive. the damn car knocks under stock boost. you throw a tune on it and it will keep knocking even worse due to the fact that you're making more boost. the fuel pump, injectors and coils were developed by a bunch of junior high kids in Germany waiting for the bell to ring.

other than the car being sensitive to knock and the fuel system being trash, the car drives better than any other car i've ever owned - even my STi. it handles like a dream, it stops on a dime and brutalizes any other "performance sedan/coupe" when it comes to hp/fuel ratio.

2) if you own an Automatic! do you regret this choice and wish you had a Manual?

i'm 31 years old, drive in Houston traffic and drop my kids off at grandma's house everyday before going to work. automatic is the way to go. i'll get a 6-speed when i'm ready to buy my 2003 C5 Z06 or 03 Cobra.

3) if you Modded your N54. do you regret this move ?

refer to post #1. these cars are pretty sensitive to tunes - especially piggies. you throw piggy backs on them and it could be the start to some headaches. if you haven't had a fuel pump replacement, the tune will definitely bring out those above mentioned flaws. there's a possibility that you will have to replace injectors or fuel pump within 500 miles of a tune.

that being said, i feel safe knowing that my car has a JB4 tune, double cone intake and an ETS front mount. based on MY PERSONAL DRIVING HABITS, i believe these mods will keep me happy for a long time and my car will ultimately be safe for another 40-50K miles with no issues. i won't ever throw an exhaust on my car due to the fact that i have a 100K warranty. if anything were to happen to my car, i can easily remove the JB4 and intakes. the ETS would stay on because it will be practically invisible to the dealer.

p.s.
i don't plan on running the JB4 throughout the year - i eventually would like to go with Cobb because i have been a Cobb supporter for a long time - i just feel more comfortable chosing their tuning practices and seemless flashes over others, even though my JB4 has been nothing short of awesome.

I sometimes regret not getting an M3 instead, but I love modding and probably wouldn't have been able to mod an M3 as much as my car. So I guess I actually don't regret getting it. I definitely am getting a much more dedicated sports car next though.

I NEVER EVER would get a 328i. They are ridiculously slow. and I definitely don't regret modding at all.

What I would regret is buying a CPO vehicle from a stealership. CPO IMHO is just a gimick, and a way to get more money for the vehicle. Sure they had some technician look it over, but did they actually change vital fluids, like transmission, rear diff, power steering, brake fluid or coolant? NO, of course not. Those are all Lifetime fluids!

I wish I chose the manual. I dont think anyone regrets modding their car. In my opinion this is the nicest car speed/luxury for the price. I dont know any other nice car in this price range that you can modify like a 335i.

The ONLY time I get some "second thoughts" (not regret) is the time when I think about the HPFP failing on me while I am driving out at night in the middle of nowhere! ...in the winter...
