I own the Passport and I like their customer service. They also update their database with new speedtraps in your area and you can also lock out those pesky fake signals that you get from time to time.
Oh and it just looks nicer. |

I have a V1 and love it. The nice feature it has over the Passport is the arrow directions that tell you where the radar is getting the signal from.

I have the passport and love it. The GPS is awesome. Tells me where every redlight camera and speed trap is. Also, if you go by the same place three times with false alarms you can mark it to ignore it. Great for gas stations, stationary speed cameras in town that are just for warning you or for security systems at stores. I had a V1 and dumped it. Never looked back. I could care less what direction the radar is coming from. If my alarm is going off I need to be slowing down regardless of where it is coming from right?

Love my V1. The only thing I could see convenient about the GPS on the passport is it canceling out false signals. But at the end of the day, I dont want the radar detector deciding what signals I get, I want all and I want to be able to determine them my self. Who cares if it tells you about red light cameras? You going to run the light if there isn't a camera?

I had both but since I do mostly city driving, the constant falsing of the V1 got really annoying quickly. So I ended up selling the V1. On highways though, the V1 seemed to notify earlier than the Escort.

I just got a V1 and it's great! The arrows are my favorite part and the range is pretty far.

ive had both and in my experience, the v1 has better range than the passport. the gps features are cool but i find the the arrows have actually been pretty useful. also you can program the v1 to only go off with certain bands so that lowers the amount of false alerts.

I have the Valentine 1 and like others have said, the arrows letting you know the direction are awesome. Another feature that I find useful is the "Bogey Counter." The Valentine 1 is an amazing piece of technology.

I do miss the arrows but the peace while driving is worth it. Plus I like the speed/red light camera alerts of the Escort.

For city/urban driving, the Escort's GPS/false alarm learning is great.
For highway cannonball runs, nothing beats the V1. Highway is where you need the most advanced notice and threat location. |

The bogey counter has saved me a couple of times. Cops really like to work in groups here and there are often more taking speed after you see the first and think you are in the clear.

V1 i'm sure is the superior device... especially for highway drives.
But frankly, I hate hardwiring devices into my car or having a ton of wires around so I LOVE the cordless Escorts (8500 i think?). Just pop it on and you're good to go. Super easy to take it off and chuck in the glove box, etc. Batteries tend to last a little over a month with daily driving. That being said, i'd love to have the 9500Xi for the GPS functionality. |

You want long range? I have used the Escort Redline for over a year and I am amazed at how long this thing detects. I have thought that maybe some were false alerts, but then a cop usually shows up.
