Yeah terminology around these things can get loose sometimes. And I just remembered they're not entirely the same thing..
OP - do you really want to be dumping exhaust gases into the atmosphere? Cmon it's a 335i, not a 200sx. lol |

I'm sure OP is talking about downpipes (aka.. dump pipes in OZ) which dump exhaust gasses from the turbo's into the exhaust system.
Nothing rice about replacing your existing downpipes with a better flowing catless set, which produce a solid 25-30hp gain at the wheels. I think some people are confusing the terminology used since they are referred to as "Dump Pipes" and that it's somehow bypassing your exhaust system........which it's not.

Dump pipe refers to the exhaust system that comes directly out from the turbo, usually at a 90 degree turn. From this you then usually have attached a front pipe which joins the dump pipe to the cat converter. Some cars have an all in one dump pipe and front pipe which is then still refered to as a dump pipe.
Americans tend to call front pipes down pipes to my understanding. Don't think there is any technical term for a screamer pipe other than an atmospheric venting wastegate. Anyway back on topic. |
