Smoked chrome ricey?

Hey all,

Can't decide on a finish of wheels. I'm looking into smoked chrome lc818's and several people that I know that have seen a black chrome wheel said it looks ricey.

Does anyone have it and can comment whether it is as shiny as chrome wheels and if it is indeed ricey?

thanks much.

I think any chrome is ricey....the only chrome I have kept on my car is the exhaust tips. However those will soon be replaced with either gloss black or titanium burnt tips.

Do you have a picture?

not lc818's, but its "black chrome" aka hyperblack. I don't think its ricey, but I might be a bit biased...

I wouldn't call it ricey but it definitely does have a chrome-like look under some lighting conditions. I personally love the way it looks different at different times. Sometimes it looks bright, other times it looks dark gunmetal.

I'm not a big fan of any chrome wheels on a BMW.

Hyperblack is definitely not ricey. Heck chrome isn't even ricey. Red, blue, and orange wheels...thats ricey.

You are getting rid of your stock chrome exhaust tips because you think it's too ricey, but they you plan on getting titanium burnt tips to replace them? Where's the logic in that? Those blue tips are more JDM than any other tips you could choose from.

hyperblack is NOT smoked chrome when it comes to linea corse.

hyperblack looks great IMO.

smoked chrome has way too much shine. not sure why they got rid of the hyperblack lc818s. it was by far the better (and more affordable) finish.

i have smoked chrome lc818s on my lemans blue e90. initially i didnt really like it but they grew on me. i dont think its ricy at all. but it all depends on your definition of "rice." personally i feel the term is way overblown on this forum.

OK was doing some research online and found some smoked chrome in direct sunlight pics. Way too shiney imho. I wish there was hyperblack but I guess I'll wait for the silvers to be back in stock (2 month wait... perfect for Chicago to fix all the potholes).

I see them on exotic cars all the time....

I've also seen them on ricers with like 4" tips.....I won't be getting anything near that large.

But most likely I will go black gloss as I am switching all the CF vinyl on my car to gloss black.

I think it looks good on monaco blue! If you really like the wheels and style, do it!

I'm not a fan of black chrome. Regular chrome looks OK on certain wheels.
