Herky jerky cornering, 335xi

Well, I think this is simply a characteristic of x drive, but I notice with my new-to-me 07 335xi sedan, manual tranny, that when accelerating from a stop while simultaneously make a 90 degree turn, there's a bit of drivetrain lash at times, seemingly front to rear.

It's worse if the terrain is uneven: potholes, camber changes, step-ups, snow/ice/water, etc.

Is this just the way xdrive is? Do I have a problem? Quattro was much smoother.

Thanks.

I don't know your answer but I can add when I accelerate from a stop and do a 90° turn my front wheels spin a bit. Seems like the drivetrain doesn't know to move the power to the back. Doesn't feel right.

Any awd setup will be under a lot of stress in that exact situation. My Ford 4x4 1 ton, in four wheel drive, from a dead stop, making a tight 90 degree turn, makes all kinds of noises, tire chirps and diff sounds. Go easy, let it live.

I noticed this today too. I thought it was just because I lost traction and the power was being sent to a different axle.

Don't know if this is helpful or not but xDrive doesn't cut power side to side, only front to back. It uses EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) to slow down a wheel....that's why we have open diffs.

True, this situation puts strain on drivelines. It sounds like xdrive doesn't handle this as well as Quattro, which was fairly smooth under such conditions, with Torsen diffs front/rear and left/right on both axles.

I can live with it, though I do miss the capabilities of Quattro, especially regarding throttle steer.

my 08 does the same thing. worse when the car is cold and the pavement is wet. Audi Quattro and Subaru's don't do it at all...but I can live w/ it.
