Is it possible to re-code (vin) an intrument cluster?
From the beginning:
Day 1: Vehicle arrived at dealer to have electrochromatic mirrors coded. During coding, vehicle would not accept programming, all modules crashed. On the drive home (without ec mirrors coded) I noticed the tach, gas guage, and instant mpg gauge were not working (paid for 2.5 hour labor). Day 2: Brought back to the dealer for the instrument cluster issue. Vehicle still will not accept any coding. PUMA (BMW Tech's Tech Support) gets involved and states replacing instrument cluster 'MAY' fix the issue. Dealer states that there is no way to test a new instrument cluster prior to purchasing the $845.00 cluster (per parts dept). Paid for 2 hours of labor, again left without a working cluster or ec mirrors (the original reason for visit). Sorry for the minor rant, but is there a way to 'test' a cluster or re-code a cluster with a vin? Seems silly to purchase the cluster on "maybe that's the issue"... Thanks.

They noticed that I had a dension gateway 500 installed in the vehicle.
Even the +IPOD VO code was removed and it was off the MOST bus, they are blaming it on the Dension. This is a separate matter that I will be bringing up w/ the service manager who is out of town...

Does anyone know if a cluster can be tested? I used INPA and ran all the self tests and they passed. I also used INPA to read the statuses (engine speed, etc) and all looked good. So apparently there's some issue w/ the cluster displaying the information.
