Powering 2x 120mm fans with MS-8

Folks, I have a triple stack (2 amps and MS-8) in my CD changer compartment, I want to put two 120mm fans in there. Would the REM OUT 12v of the MS-8 be able to supply enough current (about 0.5A for two) to run two little fans?

Any other suggestions? I thought about wiring the euro cig lighter to that side of the trunk also.

I'm actually in the process of doing this for the amp rack in my gfs car. A Bosch relay is the proper way to do it.

Here is a wiring diagram i made for it:

current limit on the remote out of the MS-8 is 1amp
so if it's 0.5A for both fans you should be good
i'd recommend 2x 140mm fans
they usually consume less current
generate more air
and don't spin as fast so less noise

Ive done this before, and used a relay as well. Thats really the only proper way of doing it.

The relay I presume being the proper way? What difference did you note in terms of effects.

Well its because you dont want to draw any extra current that a circuit isnt designed for, and you will in turn blow a fuse. A relay is an electronic switch. Use the remote wire to switch a 12V 5A relay (overkill but cheap anyway) and youll be fine.

I prefer this to using a relay
Easier to hookup
Up to 2 amp is ok

correct me if im wrong, but shouldnt the cigarette lighter be ok for a a remote lead plus fan? lets say the cig lighter is never used. after intial startup the only current would be to the fan right? or is there always current to the amp remote lead after its turned on. i was trying to stay away from a head unit connection, and another battery connection.

Cigarette lighter should be okay, but it would be a bit of a pain since the nearest one is in the center console and you'd have to run a wire from there whereas if you have an aftermarket stereo you should already have a turn-on lead near the amp you can run a relay from. I'm not exactly sure when they're powered on; either when the key is inserted or the Start button pressed.

The amp turns on even before that. It turns on as soon as you unlock the doors and stays on for a few minutes after they key is removed, for it's the stereo system that makes the "gong" sound. I ran fans off the turn on lead for this reason (using Technic's harness which is relayed from the OEM Hi-Fi turn on lead and amp power wire).

Hmm never thought of tapping that instead of the MS-8 remote out.
