Help with fuse box please!

I am trying toi connect my radar detector to the fuse box via a piggy back setup. I have been told that I need to connect to the homelink fuse (#28 on my 06 e90 i believe) but it wont power the radar. when i plug the radar into other fuse slots it works but remains on even when the car is off. homelink is supposed to work but it isnt. can anyone tell me why? i tried turning the car on and it still does not work

You're not sticking wires directly into fuse slots are you?

You should probably tap into the wire in the overhead console area..

Does your car have homelink?

You don't want to plug wires directly into the fuse slots; you should be tapping into the homelink up by the rearview mirror/roof unit

If you're using the fuse box we assume you're using an add-a-fuse.

With that said, turn your car off and start poking it in to fuses and see which turn on and which turn off. Find one that stays off. Then press the button for power and see if it turns on. Keep doing it till you find one that works.

Garage List
On my 09' E92, #28 was not homelink (but that is prolly due to year difference) Make sure diagram for Homelink fuse you are looking at looks like a house with an arrow inside...

And yes, you should be using the 'add a fuse' kit

In any event, I tried the Homelink in my car (and I do have the Auto Dim/Compass/LED/Homelink Mirror), and it was a constant ON circuit - no good for radar detector. I tried a couple different fuse locations till I found one that was ignition only - can't remember which one, will have to look when I get home...
