Driver's door speaker grille

I know this sounds silly, but is there a trick to putting the grille back in? I popped it off to take a look at something, and broke two tabs on my original one after I tried putting it back in.

I got a replacement, and I'm aware that one tab specifically goes in one spot, but it just doesn't want to clip in. I'm afraid of applying too much pressure and breaking it again.

I read one thread claiming you have to take the door panel off, but it sounded like that was for securing the fasteners holding the speaker itself in.

I never knew the grill came off. I always thought you had to remove the speaker from behind the door panel.

I guess your only solution is glue.

It's held in by tabs, and they sell replacements, so I can't imagine glue is the only solution.

When I replaced my covers to "M3" Speaker covers....I had to take off the door panel and remove the speaker. Its not hard to remove the door panel at all. If you careful you shouldn't need new door panel clips.

Yea, I was thinking I'd have to remove the speaker because it is slightly off center, and that's what's pressing against a couple tabs.

I don't have that clip removal tool, though...not sure if I should attempt it.

You really dont need one, it helps but you can accomplish it without using a little bit of course...If your going to give it a shot start at the bottom and work your way around the door panel...Btw their are three screws behind the trim

There are a couple of DIY on removing the panel

They are in the DIY section one for removing the rearview mirror.
There is also a BSW video on replacing the speakers online , it does
show you how to remove the panels on the coupe though.

I just took my door panels off today to install speakers.

I used a plastic putty knife from Home Depot to pry it open with no problems.

I did have a hell of a time getting the door panels back on though.

I decided to do it right and ordered this:

http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP5011-...4891700&sr=8-1

It'll be here Tuesday, and hopefully I can get it all situated without breaking anything.

Let me know if anyone figures out how to reinstall the grilles without removing the door panels. I know that the grille is irregularly shaped and that there must be a certain position it wants in order to fit correctly.

It's nearly impossible. Just remove the door panel. Much easier. And you will only get ticked off trying otherwise. I know this from personal experience.

i have
but it is a huge pain in the ass
if you look at the tabs
one of them is smaller than the others
find the corresponding hole in the door trim
but
you have to push in all the tabs as you install the cover
basically just enough to clear the rim
then once they pass the rim they snap into place
it can take you ages to get it right
or you take off door trim and take out speaker and do it the easy way

Well, for what its worth, I figured out the correct orientation of the grille. One of the tabs has a "tongue" on the outside, which fits into a single corresponding hole with a notch cut into it. See pics. I got it 80% of the way in, which is OK for now. Looks a lot better. I will remove the panels in about a month, when I replace the door speakers.

Ya, so I got around to fixing it today. I bought some trim removal tools off amazon and followed a diy on here (it was for the door lock actuator, but had good pictures of where the tabs are).

Anyways, after doing it the right way, I think it's safe to say it's near impossible to do it without taking the panel off. The speaker sits inside the grille tabs and pushes them into the baffle. Took like 20 minutes.

Is there enough depth for those not so thin speakers even if you do flush mount?
