Right now my car has runflats on it and I want to replace them with non runflats. The car has 225/40/17's all around right now.
My first question is are there any advantages/disadvantages to running 225s up front and 255's in the back as recommended? My second question is will switching to 18's help to fill up my wheel gap at all? Will I need to add/remove spacers if going from my current setup to say 225s up front and 255s in the back or 235s all around? Should I drop the car before or after I get the wheels and tires? Will the drop have any effect on what wheels/tires I should get besides not getting 20's that wouldnt fit or something like that? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a complete noob. |

Changing the size of your wheels from 17's to 18's won't have any impact on your fender gap. Is your current setup staggered or are the wheels the same width all around? I would hold off on spacers until you decide whether or not you're going to upgrade your wheels. Dropping your car will dictate what size and offset your new wheels can be. You need to stay within a certain tolerance to avoid the tires rubbing the inner wheel well.

I would drop the car first then change wheels/tires.. And for spacers you dont really need them if the wheel you buy has the offset you want.
And 225 front and 255 rear is what I think "balanced" set up because in my experience any size bigger/wider than that will really decrease your MPG... My stock/winter setup is 205/55/16 and summer setup is 235 front 265 rear on 18" wheels.. Highway, cruse control at 75mph: winter set up I can get up to 28MPG but with wider tires I average 20-22MPG on summer setup....
