Amp mounting tips, please

Fellas,

I'm ready to install my MS-8 into my e90 sedan. It needs to sit in close proximity to the Logic 7 amp, as I've crimped quick disconnects to both sides of the L7 harness and the input/output wires of the MS-8.

Pulling out all of the left side trunk lining, I'm trying to figure out how to secure the MS-8, without impinging on the various vacuum lines, wiring harnesses, and whatnot that resides back there. I'm thinking of fashioning an erector set-like frame to attach to the metal struts on the left side of the trunk, upon which to mount the MS-8, which will mount vertically under the trunk lining on the left side of the trunk above the L7 amp.

I don't want to lose trunk space using the CD changer kit, as my golf clubs and other items might not fit.

Any thoughts on solutions? Alternative placements?

I've seen Technic installl it under the trunk floor. Not sure if he had to shave off any plastic ridges from the floor liner to get it in there. I was not able to dry-fit the MS-8 in that spot...so I got the CD changer panel.

As far as mounting it above the amp, vertical... are you sure there is enough room to do that?

Yep, plenty of real estate to mount the MS-8 long ways up and down above the L7 amp. It would sit exposed, above the trunk liner. The trick is building a support structure under the liner that will hold it, above the various wires, lines, etc.

I too looked hard at the pan below the floor. It would fit, except the depression where the handle of the floor piece is in the way. Maybe Technic has a trick up his sleeve?

^^^ Yep, that's the one I remember seeing!

Come on T, can't just post a pic without giving some advice on any necessary mods in order to get the trunk lid to shut completely....

When I cribbed that idea from you guys and tried it, I couldn't get the latch recess on the floor cover to not hit the MS-8. Is the trick in the little angle you threw in there? Now I gotta get home and shoehorn it in there again.

Is the M3 floor the same as the 335? I know my 330xi doesn't look like that.

The MS-8 installs that I do use thin velcro strips to fix the unit to the M3 or 335i plastic tray. The trunk floor trim touches the top of the MS-8 but it is 99% flat -I use a small patch of microfiber cloth in between the MS-8 and the trim to avoid scratches or marks. If anything, in reality what can keep the trunk floor from not being flat at all in the wiring from the MS-8 to the OEM amp, and that can be also done in a way that all the wires be flat instead of bunched up one on top of the other. Thus the left trunk trim is also flat at the left edge of the trunk floor trim.

It cannot be seen in that photo but that is what I do as well.

In the 328i trunk the plastic tray is too shallow for a MS-8 to be installed there.
