hankook ventus v12 evo k110 vs. Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

Looking to buy tires and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on either tire?

I have the hankooks. In love with them. Not just the value of the tires, but grip and road noise are more than adequate. True, they are not to the level of the michilin ps 3 I had on my 17" rims, but at half the price of these tires for 19" rims, I find they offer 95% of the performance.

My two cents!

iPhone so I can't edit.

I wanted to add I had the bridgestones on my audi tt. I found the wet grip was quite poor, and within a few thousand kilometers, they became very noisy.

I have the Hankooks...currently have almost 20,000 miles on them, I expect a few thousand more before I need to get new tires. My Potenza RE 050s were dead at 14,000 miles. The traction of the Potenzas was superior to the Hankooks. In situations where I want to launch quickly the Potenzas had enough grip to get me going, with the Hankooks I need to take off DTC or the tires lose traction and DTC kicks in. The RE-11s will have even better traction than the RE-050s, but they will wear more quickly. Turn in felt better with the bridgestones than the Hankooks as well.

Not sure if i'll get the Hankooks again. For the price they are very good tires with great tread life...but they don't feel as good as the Bridgestones did.

Are you absolutely sure these were the RE11's? A street driven Audi TT is not a common application for an extreme performance tire like this. Perhaps you are commenting on some other Bridgestone model?

You would have a hard time finding two performance street tires that are more different from each other.

The RE-11 is an extreme performance tire with grip levels that exceed almost every other non race tire on the market. As a trade off, it will not wear very long. The V12 Evo is a good value oriented summer performance tire with good levels of grip and wear, but nowhere near the RE11 in terms of dry grip and handling. Most who are using their cars as daily drivers would be happier with the V12 Evo. Those who are looking to autocross or track their cars would be happier with the RE11.

I've had both. The RE-11's are in a league of their own. Going from the V12's to the RE-11's made such a big difference in terms of traction. It's unbelievable.

The RE-11s are in a completely different class in my opinion. I bought a set of the Hankooks at the beginning of the year and they're really nice tires, but if you want an extreme performance tire there is a bit to be desired from it in my opinion. RE-11s are pretty much a street driven track tire.

Depends on your needs:
Long lasting, value-driven, daily driver shoes:
Hankooks: received good reviews from C&D, high tread wear 20-30K depending upon driving style, value priced (inexpensive), great wet traction

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...12_evo_page_10

Momentary bliss tracking car between street traffic lights:
RE-11: extremely grippy, will have to change them after 10K miles, expensive, good for track and street, rubber compound so soft that it regenerates city streets by leaving portions of itself (tracks) on the asphalt.

Both: Not good below 45 degrees Fahrenheit

My ride wears Hankooks because they are best value (inexpensive/CHEAP to replace) and I don't track so I have no real need for super performance in my daily driver in traffic.

Exactly. I used to run the Re-11s on my subie and auto-x, great tire with loads of grip. I have the hankooks now on my e90 and they are a great tire as well, but nothing like the RE-11s. Hopefully the hankooks will last longer.

RE 11's- simply the best tire I have ever owned!

Had the V12's...good tire for the money. If you can afford it, go for the Bridgestones. You won't be dissapointed.

Yup. I have a friend that ran RE-11s on his car and he's been through all different brands and models. His favorite pick so far are the Bridgestones.

OP if you can afford them, you will NOT be disappointed with the performance. For every day street driving though they are not necessary. If you think you are going to be pushing the limits of your car though definitely consider the RE-11s.

I ordered them through Gary@TireRack to give E90 Post the credit. They pretty much had the best price I could find and they showed up the very next day.

Good Choice. Tried the Hankooks and I'll be diplomatic....so glad I'm driving on Michelin Pilots instead. I sent my Hankooks back!
