winter tires 2011-12.

just picked up a 2011 535xi m-sport (DAII), coming from a 335i coupe. move was dictated by a newborn.

i am looking at buying a set of winter tires/wheels, i tried to negotiate the snow tires/wheels during the car purchase but they wouldn't do it since they had no idea what winter wheels/tires that they would be carrying this year and its price. got a quote today from autohaus, not sure if it was last year or this years but it was style 281 245/45r18 dunlop sp winter sport 3d rof ($3670).

was wondering if anyone knew where i can possible get a better price? i tried parkview, with respect to a previous thread for a set of last years winter tires and wheels for slightly over $3k taxes and installed included. needless to say, they were all gone.

any chance of buying from a third party and retain the tires and wheel insurance?

thanks.

are you looking for OEM winter pkgs only?

if not, consider looking at simplytire RFT and non-RFT packages mounted on replica alloys: http://simplytire.com/winter/bmwpdf.pdf

they also have a group buy going on at RFD. you could join the GB and save even more.

You must have read my other thread.

First question is did you lease or purchase the car ? If you lease, maybe you don't need to spend so much at all, of course, it's still your preference. Like the above blogger says, you can buy from Tirerack, local tires/rims shops, etc. They should be around low to mid $2000 range (tires/rims installed & taxes incl.)
Note: For aftermarket, (to retain to the closest factory for 18"), you should be looking for wheel - 18 * 8 et 30; tires - 245/45/18 .. of course you can go 17" or retain 19" (more $), and don't forget some aftermarket wheels will require hub centric ring to fit the wheel hub, without it, you will have wheel vibration at moderate to highway speed. Lastly, you don't need to get TPMS senors.

Here is another Toronto shop that has pretty good price ... I just bought some winter tires from them last week for my Dad's MB.
Just email them of your needs and Scott (owner) will reply you back with various options (just like Simplytires)

http://www.joycitytires.com/

Indeed, Parkview did say when Fall rolls around, there will be no discount but when I got mine last year, I negotiated for $3600 (all incl. - really just saving the 13%HST). As I have mentioned, the dealer cost for the set is $2670 and almost all the GTA BMW dealers mark them up $1000 margin to retail @ $3500/$3600 change + Install + tire levy + HST.

I know TC & Budds charged the most and will not discount at all (from last year's shopping around experience). You can try Maranello and ask for Mike Agius, Parts dept T-416.213.5699 for "MaxBimmer forum" price and see. Lastly, you should try Endras as well. Or you can simply propose to offer $3100 + taxes + install and see who will accept.
The cheapest would be to buy from US. I have seen bloggers in the other BMW forum got theirs @ around $2500 US. If you factor in the shipping ($150-$200) & duties/taxes = approx. $3100 US (All incl.) which would be the same Parkview's clearance price back in August

Here is what Style 281 factory winter set looks like

the car is leased. i have the tire and wheel insurance on it from the dealership.
i'm not overly excited about going with an oem package.
i would rather get third party wheels and tires and save some money.
my main issue would be to have the winter tires and wheels cover under my tire and wheel insurance, might as well since i paid for them. anyone have any knowledge about that?

miss the e90post forums, much more members....where are all the 5forum members?

Why don't you post the same question on the 3 series forum as well to ask ....

I know this coverage. I think it's about $1400 + HST.

You are kind of stuck in between places. Just my opinion, I thik if you are a conservative driver, the aftermarket winter set should be fine. In that case, if you buy the stock winter set, at least you can sell them after 3 years when you return the car ... you should probably get about $1000 for them.

If you are interested, I have a set of 4 Michelin Pilot Alpin 3's winter tires that I had for my 2011 5 series M Sport that I no longer need. I only used them for 3 months. They have 2800 kms on them and are in perfect condition. They are 245/45/R18. I paid about $1200 for them and will sell for $650.

Hey there me again. I just noticed your 5 series is an x-drive, just like mine was. In that case, I can sell you the complete set of rims and tires that will fit your car. As I said in my earlier note above, they were only used for 3 months and are in perfect condition. If you are interested in the rim / tire set, I paid $2400 and will sell for $1650. Ther are a set of 4 Michelin Pilot Alpin 3's 245/45/R18 on BMW Replica alloys. They look great and are in brand new condition. Let me know. The reason for sale is I no longer have the 5 series.

M6 replica wheels with Dunlop Winter Sport 3D run flat, 245/45/18. The package was a bit under $2,500.00 (taxes in) last fall at Tiremag located on Keele St. between HWY 7 and Langstaff. Tires are great.
