Anyone have "Dark Wood Trim" (4BN)?
I put in a USA (California) order for my 550xi last week, due to be built Oct23-29th. Deep Sea Blue with Black Nappa interior.
From the web-configurator visuals, I had planned to order it with "Dark Wood Trim", to keep the interior from being almost all black. However, the dealer's wood-sample for the "4BN Dark Wood Trim" didn't look anything like the web-configurator. It was almost totally black, with just flecks of brown in it. Further, he doesn't have any cars on the lot to compare. I ended up putting the order in with 4CE Anthracite Wood Trim instead. Does anyone have the 550 4BN Dark Wood Trim that they could post pictures of? Does it look like the web-configurator, or is it almost totally black? --- For the curious, the car is Sport-Package (sadly no M-Trim w/DSB), and pretty loaded up. I didn't order Luxury Seating (I don't want the perforation), or stop-and-go active cruise (I haven't used cruise control more 3-5 times in ten years). |

My car was the opposite. I wanted anthracite but they only had a black on black with dark wood. It is pretty dark but in the end i wished i had ordered the car instead. It always bothered me, i would take pictures but i don't have the car anymore

Maybe this picture will help.. Is this picture (from the web-configurator) what dark-wood trim actually looks like?
The dealer wood sample for 4BN (550 dark wood trim) didn't look anything like this. His sample was almost piano-black with a couple thin brown streaks in it. Last edited by davesf; 10-09-2011 at 07:30 PM.. |

I was going to get Dark Wood like I've always gotten, but I couldn't get it with the M-sport package --- only Anthracite -- and I actually like it better than the Dark Wood I had in the previous 550i M-sport.

I orignally wanted athracite but would have had to wait longer to get the car than one that was just built with dark wood and black interior. I saw some of the cars on the lot that had dark wood and black interior and liked it though.

The F10 Dark Wood is actually darker than that on my two E60's. It is a nice contrast without jumping out at you with the black interior

My dealer emailed to let me know that they had a 550i with dark-wood trim in for service, so I was able to get a first-hand look at it.
First, I'll say it looks NOTHING like the web configurator image. I've seen BMWs with wood trim that look like the web-configurator, but the 550 (4BN) trim is a very different grain and very-very-dark. Darker than Anthracite. It's almost black. The grain is nice, more "natural walnut wood" looking than some wood-trim, but it's stained so dark it's hardly visible. In ambient light it looks almost completely black. (The grain shows up more in flash photos than it does in person.) Glad to have my order in with Anthracite. I'm going to mail bmw about fixing their web configurator images. |
