Thickest tire I can fit on e90 335xi?

Gents I have a 2008 335 XI.
Just purchased a set of 18x8.5 wheels square all around.
The roads are horrendous in the tri-state area, and I want to fit the thickest tires possible on these wheels.

Note it is an AWD car..
What is the largest/safest tires I can fit without rubbing or awd issues?

I will suggest 235's-255's, all around. However, since you are driving an AWD I wouldn't recommend the "thickest tire possible", since you will not have good traction in snow/ice. Instead, consider 225's-235's, all around. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, but I believe I mistyped.
When I say thickest I am not referring to the width of the tire, but the height of the sidewall.
The middle number on the 245/40/18 series etc..

So in clarification... what is the tallest sidewall size I can fit on an 08 e90 335xi safely? I really am trying to protect the wheel from potholes...

I guess 225/40 is the way to go.. is there a benefeit to running a 225/40 front and 255/35 rear? Or should I run 225/40 on all four corners?

I wander if you can fit 225/45/18, check before you go with the 225/40. No benefit if you run wider on the back, plus you have AWD - all tires should be the same. Remember, you are driving in winter conditions i.e. narrower tires work better, better traction.

Personally I would not recommend a 225/45/18. That's a pretty tall tire, stick with a 225/40/18.

That's dirty - find someone with a Audi or VW and sell them. Good luck
