Group Buy - Detailing and Paint Correction by Rick at Ultimate Care Care!
What's going on guys,
I am putting together a group of people/forum members to get our BMW's detailed by Rick Nelson, owner of Unique Car Care in Wakefield, MA (Just North of Boston). Rick is the best on the East Coast for paint correction, named one of the top 9 auto detailers in the country! And he has agreed to hook us all up with a great deal on any type of detailing work we need!! Whenever I asked the forum for a recommended detailer, everyone always says Rick. And his work is by far the best I have ever seen. He posts up his work on autopia, with a story and pictures from start to finish. Below are a few examples of his amazing work on some BMW's that were in deperate need for an ultimate detail: Paint Correction on a Jet Black 128i: http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-b...-car-care.html Trashed Sapphire Black 328i: http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-b...-car-care.html Blue 1-series: http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-b...re-%2A%2A.html Paint Correction on a Red M3: http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-b...re-%2A%2A.html Here are his steps to prep for an exterior detail: - Soak exterior in foam and pressure wash to remove as much loose salt, sand and grime as possible before washing. - Hand wash, extensive cleaning of all tires, wheels, wheel wells and engine compartment. - Foam the car down again and clay all paint surfaces to remove any bonded contaminants (bugs, tar, sap, bonded brake dust, etc..), which makes the paint feel silky smooth. - After the claybar treatment, it is necessary to degrease the paint to strip any previous, waxes, sealants, quick detailers, etc... Many waxes and quick detailers contain silicon, which can make polishing very difficult if it is not fully removed. Quote from Rick, "It is necessary to remove any and all traces of previous waxes, sealants, spray waxes, etc, because most of these products contain silicon, which embeds itself in the paint, making it difficult to remove any of the defects. The silicon acts as a lubricant and creates a barrier, which causes the buffer to "hydroplane" above the paint surface, making it very difficult to properly remove the defects. I spend quite a bit of time degreasing the paint in order to remove everything, which can be difficult, depending on what products are on the paint. When the panels no longer bead water, it is a pretty good indication that all traces of silicon have been removed from the paint surface. Silicon will mask and conceal defects, so when it is removed, it gives you a rendering of the true condition. Once all of these steps are complete, the vehicle is given a final rinse, dried, all cracks & crevices are purged with compressed air and all door, hood and trunk jambs are wiped clean. In addition, all badges, trim and moldings are masked off with painters tape as a precaution in case the buffer comes in contact with these areas." "Once the exterior has been fully prepped, I inspect every panel closely to see what the extent of the damage is. I normally choose a "test panel" to test out various pad and product combinations in order to get the results I'm looking to achieve. This will determine how much work will be involved (1-step, 2-step, 3-step, etc...). After all of the polishing is complete, I perform alcohol wipedowns to ensure all traces of polishing oils are removed from the surface in order to see the true condition of the paint. Sometimes a quick wash is necessary to remove polish residue from all cracks & crevices. Once it passes inspection under various light sources, I apply a long lasting paint sealant to all exterior surfaces, including the wheels. Finally, all tires and wheel wells are dressed, the exterior windows are cleaned and all metal is polished/sealed. There are no glazes or fillers used whatsoever, so nothing is going to magically reappear a few weeks down the road like typical detail shops. The swirl-free finish will remain for a long period of time, as long as you take the proper steps to maintain it." Rick also offers clear-bra film installs, paintless dent removal, alloy wheel repair (painted wheels only) and interior repair! If you are interested in getting in on any type of detail, ranging from basic detail, exterior only, interior only, full exterior/interior, paint correction, wheel repair; etc. Reply To This Thread! Rick has told me that he will work out a better deal for us e90post members. Please put your name on this list and then send me a PM with your full name, email and phone number with an approximate date you would like to have the detail done. Also make sure to include what service you are interested in. ~-~-~ This Group Detail Is Being Put Together By Myself, Not By Rick. I Am Trying To Help The Forum Out With An Amazing Detail! ~-~-~

Are you trying to set this up before winter?

How much exactly is a better deal? I need my exterior done (paint is hazy, swirled, some scratches and chips that need to be taken care of), but I have a feeling it's still going to be out of my price range since money is tight at the moment.

To give you guys an idea:
A ballpark figure for a single stage polish with the proper prep work mentioned above, you are probably looking at somewhere around $300. A ballpark figure for a two stage polish with the proper prep work mentioned above, you are probably looking at somewhere around $400. Anything above a two stage polish is getting into the range of a full paint correction, which can vary in price depending on condition. Normally, the price will jump up a little (around $500 to $600), but included is a full interior detail free of charge. Again, these are just ballpark figures, the discounted prices have not been released yet. I'm trying to build the interest first.

Yeah, seems like this is way out of my price range, especially before winter.

I've heard good things about Driven Perfection. I know it's not the same level of detailing, but from what he told me, he fixes swirls and does a pretty good clean/clay/wax job for $100. I think it was MassBimmer who had his car done and it looked great.

I'm also very interested, but can you tell us what time frame we're working with? Is this group buy specific for certain months?

I would jump on this also but its going to be winter. Ideally i would rather just get something to hold me over past the cold months then when spring hits get a full detail.

Definitely interested as well,as my car could use some of Ricks magic, but I'd be more interested in a spring deal than winter. With all the salt and snow coming our way soon, I'd rather invest that money when I know his hard work will last longer.

As a counter point for people to consider: With winter and salt coming now may be the best time to get your paint protected, and if I recall correctly Rick uses a sealant which should last through the winter. I'd be interested in hearing whether he could offer something like a "winter proctection" service. I've been meaning to do this myself but I just haven't found the time. |

Yeah man, he is now offering a winter protection package to get us all through the harsh winter weather, and then give the opportunity for a group detail in the spring. Below is his PM to me, Let me know who is interested in this Quote:
