Order Contract Price

I've never ordered a car before, so here's the question--when I negotiate a price with a dealer, plunk down my deposit and order my car, what's to stop the dealer from either asking me for more money or selling my car to someone else at a higher price when it finally shows up? Did any of you sign any sort of a contract when you ordered your car?

It should not be a problem. The contract lists the ordered car with all of the equipment and the total price. They are obligated to get that car for you.

Get the agreed price in writing on Dealer letterhead, if you're concerned.

They are not legally obligated. You have to be sure that in the
preliminary contract you sign (under "Purchase's Signature")
there is also the signature of the dealership manager (under
"Accepted By").
A tipical trick they play is to ask you to sign and to "forget" to
sign the "accepted by" field. Doing so they are not obbligated
to honor anything ....

best to buy your car from a well known dealer. More security and better after sales service (thats if you need it).

Very deceptive! The signed contract was what I was thinking and the signed letter is also a great idea.
It's a shame that some dealers would waste everyone's time with those tricks.

Just walk away if the bait and switch is pulled out -- We have some leverage as buyers, so give them the f-u and find a better dealer.
