Continental Extreme Contact vs. Michelin

I was at my BMW center yesterday to make a service appointment. I have 29,000K on a 2110 E92/N54. I mentioned to my service advisor that I am going to need new rear tires on my ride. I put some Michelin PS2 non-runflats on about 11,000 miles ago. My rears are still OK, but look as if I may only get a few thousand more miles out of them. Fronts are fine.

I have some engine mods (JB3, DCI and BMW perf exhaust.) Suspension is KW Series 1, and I have a Quaife LSD.

My service advisor is aware of my mods, and he brought up a Tire Rack Comparison sheet that show the Continentals as being top notch in a number of fields. I don't "drag" race my car, but I do enjoy spriited cornering. I noteice in cornering stability and steering response the Michelins score higher, but in most other catagories the two are fairly close.

Just wondering if the cost savings of the Continentals will give me a tire that is noticably inferior in handling? I don't like haveing to spend as much as I have on a tire, if there are alternatives that I can live with? That being said, I will pay the price for the Pilot Sports, or maybe try the Super Sports if the Continental option means sacrificing the performance that I have grown accustomed to.

Your grip levels will be similar between the Michelin and the Extreme DW.

You get better steering response with the PS2.

You get better comfort with the DW. Your noise might also improve slightly, if at all.

Both are great options.

Pilot Super Sport>All. I was going to get the Conti Extremes, but I rolled the dice and got PSSes. Since then, I've driven M3s with both Conti Extreme and PSS, and there's no comparison. Now everyone local is getting em. It's the most fun and rewarding time you'll have with rubber that wasn't used for penetration.

Continentals are a great budget tire, but the PS2s or PSS are a more 'poised' tire. For everyday street driving DWs are fine but if you are pushing your car harder the Michelins may be better.

DWS are a great tire for daily driving - it's probably the second most popular tires that my customers ask for. However, on the track, I would go with MICHELINS.
