Bridgestone RE960 RFT 3rd gen vs Conti Pro Contact SSR RFT

I own a CPO '06 330i with 17" OEM run flat. They are starting to wear down and I'm trying to decide what to replace them with. I just moved to Chicago and am not use to driving in snow. Here are my driving habits:

-I commute to work on the train and drive my car about once a week.
-When I do drive, it is hardly ever on the interstate and is only to go get grocceries or to the store (max 40MPH).
-I live in the city (Lincoln Park) and the roads are almost always plowed and salted.
-Chicago has tons of pot holes and I'm constantly concerned about blowing out a tire, bending a rim, or blowing out my suspension

So given these situations I think it is best to stay with AS tires and not go with a seperate winter setup because I don't think it makes sense with as little driving as I do. I've searched the forum and I've narrowed it down to these two tires based on what the users and Gary@tirerack has said.

I've noticed that there isn't much out there on the RE960 RFT 3rd gen as this is really the only thing that I found.

What is everyone's suggestion if they had to pick between these two tires?

I have the conti ssr rft and am about to replace after ~35K. I am debating between the re960as rft and the new re970as. I think the contis were the best rft out of the limited options when BMW chose, but have read that the new 960 rft has much better ride quality. I am trying to convince myself that I can get by with the non rft 970 since it will have even better ride/performance, be cheaper and lighter. Would pair them with a conti comfi-kit.

If you decide to opt for a non RFT, you should seriously consider the Conti Extreme Contact DWS.

Otherwise, I think I'd pick the RE960 RFT.

Between the two runflat all season tires in that size the Conti ProContact SSR has a bit softer ride and is a bit quieter while the RE960 A/S RFT would have an advantage in wet grip as well as better handling and steering response.

Gary how would the 970's compare to these 2? (960 and ssr).

The 970 is a non run flat tire. As a result, it has a softer ride and slightly slower steering response than the run flat RE960 A/S rft.

The 970 should have longer wear and better wet traction.
